Adrienne (Barone) Cox, age 82 of Massapequa, New York passed away peacefully on November 22, 2023. Predeceased by her parents Arsenio “Fred” and Josephine Barone of Massapequa Park; she is survived by her adoring husband Edward, son Edward Jr (Debbie Gumpel), daughter Tara, grandson Thomas, brother Frederick Barone (Christine), sister Brenda Gelson, and numerous nieces and nephews. Born in Bay Ridge Brooklyn, Adrienne’s family moved to Massapequa when she was a teenager. She worked as a Registered Nurse at Brunswick Hospital and later as a case coordinator at South Oaks Rehabilitation Center in Amityville.
She was a dedicated mother and grandmother who liked to say it was her job to give her kids “roots and wings;” roots so they’d have a strong foundation and wings so they could fly on their own, and she did just that. She was fiercely proud of her children and grandson.
After raising her children, Adrienne enrolled in college and realized her dream of being a nurse. She was committed to those she took care of; many times while shopping locally she’d run into former patients who would stop to thank her for her kindness and empathy during their rough time.
She met her husband shortly after moving from Bay Ridge to Massapequa when she was 13 years old, making them lifelong best friends. Their love was authentic and at times raw, but it was clear after 62 years of marriage and almost 70 years together that they were still giddily in love.
Adrienne was known for her impeccable sense of style including jet black hair, red lips and nails and a dash of leopard print. She was a bold personality who spoke her mind, and stood up for what she thought was right. She adored dining out (but not cooking), Elvis movies, Johnny Mathis’ music and visits from her grandcat Gus.
