MAHER – Angela (nee Alexander), a longtime resident of Massapequa Park, passed away on February 12, 2025. Predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Carmela Alexander, and beloved husband, Alan E. Maher. Loving mother of Chris Maher (Carol) and Angel Harris (Jeff). She will be missed by her six grandchildren: Brian Maher (Kelly), Bridget Peragine (Kevin), Kiera Maher (Dan Cordts), Kevin Maher, Meghan Harris, and Martin Harris (Keely), as well as her cousin, Maryann Bassi. She was also adored by her great-grandson, August.

Angela dedicated over 30 years to teaching kindergarten at both Unqua and Raymond J. Lockhart elementary schools in Massapequa before retiring in 1990. She was an active alumna of St. Joseph’s College of Brooklyn. In her free time, she enjoyed traveling, knitting, shopping, reading, golfing, and spending time with friends after retirement at Colonial Club in Boynton Beach, Florida.

My cousin Angela leaves our family with a legacy of deep faith, family history stories, a quirky sense of humor, examples of great kindness and generosity but above all, love. Angela was an inspiration to be adventurous, try anything once, push the limits and her best legacy, finding bargains. Shopping was her specialty! She was the one who always gathered us and hosted family reunions in the backyard every summer. She was a dedicated daughter, a caring cousin, a protective parent and proud grandma and a happy Gigi. Mrs. Maher was my kindergarten teacher at Unqua in 1976. I remember vividly crying when the year ended. Fast forward, 25 years later i'm living down Atlantic Ave and shes a neighbor! And we worked out at Curves together when I was pregnant. She let me borrow her kid's basinet from when they were babies. Also on Chrismas Eve, she had a Pete the Cat book put on my stoop as a surprise for my son. I will always remember how strong she was and looked up to her because I felt she was a strong willed woman esp for the 70's and 80's. She will be missed.

Angela was such a special woman, a devoted mother and an incredible teacher who shaped so many young lives. She was a loving and very generous woman who always put family first. Whether she was shopping and taking advantage of the latest sales or knitting something warm with care, she made everyone around her feel loved. She will be dearly missed.
