Armstrong, Arthur DeWitt
Born November 17, 1930, he died quietly October 31, 2024 after powering through many health challenges without complaint. After the death of his wife, Myrill “Betty” Elizabeth Pellette, of 68 years in May 2020, he continued to be a devoted father to his daughter, Myrill Elise Armstrong Solaski (Paul), and vibrant grandfather “Poppy” to his four grandchildren: Myrill Jean (Farid Rener), Ariel Elizabeth (Daniel Liebowitz), Robert Arthur, and Lorienne Elysia. Poppy also loved to spend time with his great grandchildren: (Myrill) Leila, Windsor, Eden, and Ruby.
Growing up in Brooklyn, he was an active member of the historical Flatlands Dutch Reform Church, where he met Betty. As newlyweds, they moved to Massapequa in 1952. Together they were charter members of the Massapequa Reform Church. Arthur served as a Deacon, Elder, Property Commission Chair, Youth Group Advisor, Friend of the Nursery School, and a daily worker and presence at the church he loved. He loved and was loved by his church family, nieces & nephews, co-workers, neighbors, and pretty much everyone he knew or met.
Arthur was a proud United States Navy Veteran (Kiowa ATF72). He began his work career as a model maker and later earned a mechanical engineering degree at SUNY Farmingdale. He enjoyed a long career as a dedicated Hazeltine electronics employee.
Arthur loved golf, model railroading, fishing, clamming, and creating. After building his own workshop, he could imagine, design, and build anything out of metal or wood.
Visitation will take place at the Massapequa Funeral Home South on Wednesday November 6th from 2-4PM and 7-9PM. A funeral service will be held on Thursday November 7th at 10AM at the Massapequa Reformed Church followed by graveside prayers at Pinelawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, please make any donations to our Veterans and/or the Massapequa Reformed Church.
