Audrey Paula Muller (nee Sandhop) was born July 30, 1928, in Astoria Queens to Carl and Helen Sandhop, and passed away August 25, 2024. She had one older sister, Carla. She grew up in Bellaire Queens. Audrey graduated with honors and served as valedictorian of her class from Andrew Jackson High School, also in Queens. She attended Martha Washington College (now part of University of Virginia).
She was married June 18, 1948, to Alwin Daniel Muller at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Bellaire Queens. Alwin was a veteran of WWII, and a college student at the time. They were married 51 years until Alwin’s death in 2000. They lived in Springfield, Massachusetts and moved shortly after Alwin’s graduation to Garden City, where Alwin was science and sports master at the Cathedral School of St. Paul. Audrey was active caring for 2 boys during those years, especially with Cub scouts and PTA.
In 1960, the family moved to Massapequa where Audrey continued to be active in her sons’ upbringing, PTA, Scouts, and the Woman’s Circle at Saint David’s Lutheran Church in Massapequa. She was also a member of the Biltmore Beach Club for over 60 years.
Later, she went to work as a sales representative for Montag Stationary and as a supervisor with Geico Insurance. She enjoyed golfing, bridge club, the Massapequa Women’s Club and its literary group, and traveling. She also provided care for her husband during his long battle with kidney disease. She remained active with her interests as long as she could until dementia and its complications claimed her.
Audrey is survived by her two sons, the Rt. Rev. Bart R Muller of Brighton, MI and his wife Jennifer (nee Hoffman) and Lt. Commander (ret) Kurt A Muller and his wife Louise (nee Ferris); 6 grandchildren: Bart’s children Carl Daniel (Stacie) Muller, Kevin Paul (Kate) Muller and Eric Michael (Sara) Muller and Kurt’s children Tom (Jayd Banuelos) Muller, Audrey (Mark) Scott and Helen (Jose Lopez) Muller. She also had 2 great-grandchildren Laura Scott and Esther Lopez.
