Born Barbara Rodolico on July 25, 1928, daughter of Frank Rodolico (of Trapani, Sicily) and Margaret Gaeta (of New Haven, Connecticut). Older sibling to Catherine Delaney (nee Rodolico) and Anthony Rodolico.

Barbara grew up in Brooklyn, New York in a tight-knit community surrounded by a large family and friends. As a young teenager she was a volunteer to aid in the war effort.

Barbara met the first love of her life, John Smaligo in 1947 and they were married in 1949. They had three children, Peter Smaligo (m. Andrea Edwards), Richard Smaligo (m. Linda Meredith) and Mary Smaligo- Kelly (m Kevin Kelly). They lived the idyllic struggling life like any other young couple of the time until tragically John passed away from a heart attack in 1959. Barabara was 31 with three children.

In 1961, Barbara met and married Murray Goldberg, whom he himself was a widower who had four children, Randee Goldberg (m. William Schuhert), Audrey Goldberg (m. Frank Semeniuk), Bonnie Goldberg (m. Angelo Stuhl) and Alisa Goldberg (m. Grant Morgen). The combined family of 9 moved to East Meadow, Long Island in 1962. Later that decade they added Debra Goldberg (m. Larry Field) and Ellen Goldberg (m. Michael Greenwood).

While Barabara was a stay-at-home Mom and Murray worked endlessly to support his family, they instilled hard work and love in all of their children who grew up to all have productive lives.

Barbara and Murray retired to Spring Hills, Florida in the 1980’s but missing their family brought them back to the Northeast (Connecticut) where Murray passed in 2004. Barbara, not wanting to be a burden on her children, decided to move into Dominican Village, an independent living facility located in Amityville, New York where she made countless friends over the years and helped others ease into old age gracefully.

Barbara always had time to chat and always had a kind word about everyone she knew and met.

Barbara is preceded in death by her children Peter Smaligo and Randee Shuhert. She is survived by her children Richard Smaligo, Audrey Semeniuk, Mary Kelly, Bonnie Stuhl, Lisa Morgen, Debra Field and Ellen Greenwood. She is also survived by Grandchildren Greg Smaligo (Peter), Scott Shuhert, Jeffery Shuhert and Jennifer Shuhert (sp: T.J. Williams) (Randee), Nicholas Smaligo, Andrew Smaligo and Paige Smaligo (Richard), Steven Semeniuk and Lauren Semeniuk (Audrey), Christopher Kelly (sp. Allison), Thomas Kelly (sp. Cristi) and Michael Kelly (sp. Annie) (Mary), Brian Stuhl and Amanda Sthul (Bonnie), Jonathan Morgan (Alisa), Dylon Field and Tyler Field (Debbie), Anthony Rom (sp: Josh), Louis Rom and Jessica Greenwood (Ellen) and further survived by Great Grandchildren: Taylor, Ryan, Skylar, Ben, Sam, Lucas, Mia, Caleb, Liam, and Avery.
