Carol-Lee Igoe, of Hauppauge, NY, our loving fiance, daughter, mother, nanna, sister, cousin, and friend passed away surrounded by family on April 22, 2023 in her home of 55 years.
Born – July 12, 1944 in North Andover, Massachusetts to Diedrich D. Schwarting and Priscilla J. Lewis. Carol-Lee graduated from Wantagh High School in 1962 where she lettered in Field Hockey and from the University of New Hampshire in 1966. While raising two children as a single mother she started a career with the Suffolk County Department of Health Services that lasted 35 years until her retirement. Carol-Lee enjoyed nature, backpacking, camping, canoeing, kayaking, and most of all the beach. She was very active in the Boy Scouts of America for 40 years; having served in many positions within the organization, training volunteers, and teaching several generations of youth to be prepared and to do their best to do their duty to God and country. Carol-Lee was also a 15+ year member of the Hauppauge Rotary Club; an organization that follows her true nature of service to others.
Carol-Lee led a simple life that was all about family, giving of her time to the community, the outdoors and all nature has to offer. A devoted daughter, she retired to take care of her father in his later years. Even as a single mother, she would drive 7 hours to visit family in NH a couple of times a year with two little kids in tow. She spent her life going to Jones Beach – West End 2 and later on Field 6 – with our favorite family game being who could see the tower first on Jones Beach Parkway. Bears and otters were her favorite symbols of nature. She loved jazz, getting dressed up to go out, dancing, rum and coke, good scotch, but most of all she loved playing any kind of game or just reading with her grandchildren. Everyone that knew her, comments on how she was such a good person, someone who really listened and cared about whomever she was with; quick with a smile, laugh and helping hand.
In 2009 Carol-Lee met her fiance Jessie who shared her love for nature, birds, gardening and family. Together they would frequent their property and camper on the lake in upstate New York while also visiting family and friends in California, Florida, Maryland, New Hampshire and South Carolina.
She spent three years battling ovarian cancer and never gave up the fight – vowing to aggressively fight and live for her grandchildren to the end.
She is survived by her son and family, Edward, Rachelle, John, Daniel, McKenna and Liam (Summerville, SC); daughter and family, Kristine, Ronald and Alexander (Pleasant Hill, CA); loving fiance, Jessie Hendrickson (Hauppauge, NY) and his family – children: Michelle, Ben, Heather, Luis, John, Katrina and grandchildren: Jessie Mariee, Luis, Laurel Grace, Alana , Kirsten, Rowan, Jessie. She was preceded in death by her father and mother Diedrich and Priscilla Schwarting.
