Conrad passed peacefully on December 30, 2022. He was born in Brooklyn, NY, moved to Freeport L.I. and graduated from Freeport High School in 1948. He went on to live in Freeport when he married his loving wife of 72 years, Florence (nee Baldwin).
Eventually moving to North Massapequa, Conrad owned and operated his own plumbing business, “CW McCarthy Plumbing and Heating Inc.”. As a Master Plumber he was a member of The Nassau County Joint Board of Plumbers. He was an expert carpenter and boat builder. His passion of building wooden boats led him to teach in Maine at The Wooden Boat School. Additionally, he volunteered restoring classic Long Island wooden boats at The Long Island Maritime Museum in Sayville. He eventually retired from Grumman Aerospace Facilities Department after 17 years. He served in the Freeport and North Massapequa Fire Department for a combined total of 50 years. While serving in the NMFD he became Captain in 1959-1960. He remained a lifetime member of the NMFD.
Conrad was a kind and gentle soul with strong moral and spiritual beliefs. He shared his talents, life lessons and love of boats with his family, friends, and many others.
Together with his wife, Florence, he raised four children, Linda (Joe), Michael (Jill), Thomas (deceased) (Kim), and James (Kim Rose). Conrad was blessed with 10 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He was loved and respected by all who had the opportunity to meet him.
A wonderful life lived by a wonderful man.
