First of all, my condolences to Christine and the Tigar Family. I was in shock to hear about this sad news. Dan was a great guy, a mentor and a good friend. He was always very respectful of people regardless of where they came from. I met him like 20 years ago, when Citi acquired Banamex and I am truly grateful of all I learnt from him. We also had a lot of fun, I remember him dancing to Mexican music and enjoying the mariachis music (was he singing in Spanish too? ) at the traditional Cuernavaca Christmas party. He encouraged me to keep growing, professionaly and personaly. I know he had a lot of respect for the Mexican team. He also became friends with my husband as family was very important for him. Thank you Dan! Armando and Lucy Pineda
Howard Berzon left a message on February 8, 2022:
Christine and family, deepest condolences. The world is a sadder place without that laugh! Dan was a boyish 30-something when I met him, and even when I was rolling him into a black car after one too many, he was talking about his family and fixing that house and being the great guy we'll surely miss and remember.

Shane Blair left a message on February 7, 2022:
First I'd like to offer my condolences to Christine and the entire Tigar family. Am hopeful that the many words and remembrances from those that Dan's life touched will be some solace in an otherwise irreconcilable time. As others have said, Dan wore many hats: friend, manager, mentor.... His love of life was contagious, and you learned pretty quick that he knew the meaning of work/life balance. He and Christine loved to travel, and aside from the annual fishing trip to which Bert referenced, you could be sure that in most years Dan and Christine would be taking a unique trip on their own...a journey through the Middle East, a trek through the safari, or even just a business trip to Budapest, Mexico City or Dallas was sure to include good food and fun with his friends and colleagues. I can recall one particular trip to the Citi offices in Budapest to spend time with the team, and after an overnight flight from Dallas to Heathrow and then a quick jump to Budapest, I was dragging and headed straight for the room to get some rest. But not Dan! I should have taken his cue to push through and turn in early instead of napping and then staying up too late. By the end of our first work day, I was struggling to stay awake, and by the end of the team dinner I was seriously trying to fashion a pillow out of my cloth napkin...the jet lag had caught up to me. But not Dan! I believe, as he often did, Dan made sure to maximize the visit, finding time to give every member of the team some one-on-one time, and am sure all who knew him has a similar story of how just when you were hitting a wall, Dan was finding his second wind. Having worked alongside Dan's team after the merger to which Meredith referred, and then as his Chief of Staff for another 10 years after Security Engineering was combined under John D, there would be many an occasion for Dan to demonstrate the diplomacy, generosity, strategic business acumen and more importantly friendship about which so many have written here. And is those qualities that contributed to him having a leadership team with more than 100 years of combined Citi experience...people stayed on the team. Dan went to bat for his people and was always conscious to give the next line down exposure and opportunity. Sure that also meant sometimes having to make the hard decisions or retreat and live to fight another day, but not before he'd tried everything on behalf of the team. It's hard to feel as though you have properly memorialized one who has had such a significant impact on your life, and especially, when you never expected to be doing it any time soon. Am just happy that we had stayed in touch post-Citi, and that I had the opportunity to know him in the first place. You will be missed, Mr. Tigar!

Dan had an irrepressible boyish enthusiasm that shone like a beacon in a profession that dealt with murky shadows. As I'm writing the 6 PM Bell's of St Mary's in Lake Ronkonkoma are ringing so I think he got his wings. Laughing in the face of adversity is how I'll remember him from our days in Citigroup. My condolences to family and friends for surely his departure must be a deep chasm of sorrow but a mountain of warm memories shall bridge the gap. "Ya think so" is a saying of his that rings that rings clear.
Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.

Meredith Prange left a message on February 4, 2022:
My heart hurts for Christine, and all of Dan’s friends and family. I will always remember when Dan and I started working together. It was the time of the mergers, and I will never forget when we were having our first meeting about how we would bring our teams together - Dan’s attitude was - ‘let do what’s right, I have no set agenda or ego in this.’ And by the way he meant it. I know everyone knows how rare this is. This is exactly how Dan operated for as long as I knew him. I can still hear his laugh as we always found something to joke about. I had lost touch with most of my colleagues over the past few years - but.. just about 3 weeks ago, I had a phone conversation with Dan. He was telling me about his new place in the city, his new job, I told him about the joys of the restaurant business, and we talked about meeting up in the near future. Dan I wish you could see how you are again bringing people together - but I know you can.

Let me express my deepest condolences to Christine and all of the family and friends of Dan. Dan and I worked together for over 30 years. During that time he built and led the best information security program and team in the WORLD. He was the architect of a global security platform on a scale unseen in financial services. Every day, his efforts protected Citi and its 100s of millions of customers' data and money Regulators worldwide knew him and respected him. He drove the selection and implementation of the newest technologies. Technology companies clamored to get their products into Dan's labs so that he could tell them how to improve it. Key to his success, Dan hired, trained, motivated and mentored the best technology talent in this field. Whether people worked for him or not, his counsel would be sought and he would work to help whoever needed his help. This is a career worth celebrating and talking of for ever. And yet with all this, I will remember Dan as much for his professionalism, calmness in times of great stress and, mostly, his smile and his laugh. Thank you Dan, John D'Onofrio

I have so many happy memories of him that I can’t possibly list them all. However, this is how I will always remember him, with a fish, or two, in his hands and a big smile on his face. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and remain a part of our hearts forever. My deepest condolences to Christine and his family. We are here for you for whatever you may need. Bert & Carmen

One of my fondest memories of Daniel was when we went to a theater and I got a bit scared of the dark. Uncle X reminded me that I can overcome my fears by trying a little bit at a time. Anyway the play starts and Daniel isn’t anywhere to be seen. Turns out Wednesday was sick so Daniel took over the role of the Nutcracker. He said he learned his steps using Uncle X’s song: “If something seems hard to do Try it a little bit at a time A little bit little bit at a time” That was a great time.
