Donald “Coach” McCauley passed away on Tuesday, October 12th, 2021. He was 88 years old. He was born on July 16th, 1933, in Brooklyn, New York to Joseph and Ruth McCauley. He is survived by his wife, Nancy and his five children: Marilyn, Michael, Dennis, Stephen and Andrew. Don was a Veteran, serving two tours, and was a graduate of Chaminade High School and Manhattan College. He was a gifted track athlete, who remains the record holder in the 100-yard dash at Chaminade High School (a record that will never be broken, as the 100-yard dash has been retired). A beloved Physical Education teacher at Berner High School, Don also coached track, bowling and soccer. Don’s biggest pride was his 13 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He will be remembered always for his gentle soul, selflessness, omnipresence on the sidelines and love of a good deal at Shop Right.
Visitation at the funeral home will be private. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Rose of Lima in Massapequa on Tuesday, October 19th at 11:30am.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
