Ernest G. Finamore, Sr., age 95, on June 3, 2021. Born in Corona and raised in Bethpage, he resided in Massapequa Park for 69 years. His 45 year career at Grumman Aerospace started at age 17, bucking rivets on the TBF Torpedo Bomber. In 1944, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy for 2 1/2 years before returning to Grumman, where he earned a private pilot aircraft license via the G.I. Bill. For five years Ernest did Production Aircraft Test flying as Plane Captain and Co-Pilot. After promotion to Quality Control Inspector, he inspected Lunar Modules for seven years and all other aircraft models for 19 years, doing final engineering and test procedures until retirement in 1989. After retirement, Ernest was a member of the Grumman Restoration Team and a charter member and docent at the Cradle of Aviation Museum. Ernest is survived by Rose, his beloved wife of 70 years. Loving father of Ernest Jr., Susan Boss (Bill) and Thomas. Proud grandfather of Mitchell and Michael. Dear brother of Carmela, Frank (dec.), Marie (dec.), Janice and Jimmy (dec.). Uncle to many nieces and nephews. Reposing at Massapequa Funeral Home, Inc., North Chapel, 1050 Park Blvd., Massapequa Park on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9pm. Funeral Mass Monday 10:45am at Our Lady of Lourdes RC Church, Massapequa Park. A private cremation will follow. His urn will be placed at Long Island National Cemetery, Farmingdale at a later date.
