I feel deep sorrow for the loss of such a beautiful soul. Rest in peace Lucky.

I have just learned of our loss . Lucky grew up in north massapequa and we lived one house over. My two brothers were the youngest and spent a lot of time with the DiBenedettos. My sisters and I babysat . We knew Fortunato when he was Phillip . He was a great kid. He floated on a raft in the sump with my brother John and climbed on the garage roof and threw acorns as we were walking up to the house. I remember how loving his parents were to us. We loved Dee and Mike. My heart is very sad for your loss. He was a great kid and a good man. Before my mother passed at 94 we took her to the coffee shop and visited . He was so loving and sweet with my mother. I was in town for my brothers funeral and saw him. He told stories to Johns kids in his loving way and had us laughing. My sincere condolences go to all his family and friends . Such a loss.

I just heard of Lucky's passing today (8/27) and was heartbroken. He was a gentleman for as long as I knew him. My condolences to his family.

I just heard of Lucky's passing and was very sad to learn of it. I worked with Lucky at Citigroup and he was one of the nicest people I ever had the pleasure of knowing. He was a kind soul. My deepest condolences go out to his family who he loved to talk about.

I had the pleasure of working with "Lucky" back in 1999-2000. Even though it was not long, he really made an impression on me. Loved the stories he used to tell me - just being around him made coming to work fun. From talking about fitness, dietary supplements, and tattoos (got my very 1st tattoo at a shop in LI that Lucky recommended) he will be greatly missed. My deepest condolensces to his entire family and friends.

I don't have face book.. So this is where I leave a thought. Missing you Lucky miss our conversations and the sheer happiness you left in my day. To know I won't see you on my Birthday to make my Horchata leaves me so sad. You left such an impression on all of the hearts of those you met and became your friends. I'll never forget when I was waliking back from the train station to visit my parents, and Lucky was driving by, and stopped to say Hi. He told me that he was delivering left over pastries to a soup kitchen at a local church, He insisted, however, that I take some to bring to my parents who he knew were on in years and having health problems. That was Lucky, a truly spirtual human being. The deepest condolences to his family for whom he cared so much.

You were always there to cheer me up and ease my pain.I will truly think of you everyday.

Everyday you will be missed. You are so appreciated and admired for being such a light in the day. All you said and did will never be forgotton. A true inspiration of how how we should engage with one another and truly listen and care. We should never take moments minutes hours for granted. Lucky was one of the brightest personalitys I've ever meet in a person. He would really brighten up your day and for me I felt a sense of hope and comfort just being around him. Lucky's energy was infectious and he always had something positive to say and never failed to get a laugh out of me. I can't believe he's gone. He truly will be missed. Seeing so many people at his memorial is a testament to how many lives he touched and how much love those people felt for him.

Being a Massapequa Perk patron, mainly when I would miss the early morning train, I would always feel a sense of tranquility from Lucky. From the way he described the coffee of the day to the way he would spin the cup as he served it. The sound of his soothing voice and uplifting words always made it worth missing the train! Finding out about his passing this morning after missing the train brought me such sadness. I will still be a regular, but it will not be the same without that familiar welcoming smile. My deepest sympathy goes out to his Family. May he rest in peace.

The feeling of walking into Massapequa Perk and being greeted by a person like Lucky was like none other. He treated you like family and made you feel important. There were times I entered the perk feeling down or just stressed by the day I had and Lucky just always knew what to say. He was like no other person I've met in my life, I am a better person because of him. I will miss him greatly. All my love to Lisa ,Sonny and Lily.

Lucky was a very special soul. He had the ability to instantly make you smile whenever you came through the door at the Perk. Lucky was one of those people you hear about but sometimes wonder if the people talking about them are exaggerating their stories. With Lucky that is not the case. He truly was a special soul who almost seemed to be operating at a much higher level and frequency than the rest of us. He saw life differently and chose to live above the trivial worries of this world. I am saddened but so happy to have had encountered him on this side. My deepest condolences to his family and close friends.

My niece who frequented Mr DiBennedetto's Coffee Shop told me of his passing. She said he was the most wonderful gentleman. God bless him in Heaven, and his family I send condolences, and my deepest sympathy.

My Wife Julie and I moved from Brooklyn to Massapequa a bit over 6 years ago. One of the first places we both felt the most welcome (almost instantly) was Massapequa Perk... And that was mainly because of Lucky. Lucky had passed no judgement on newcomers, he literally welcomed everyone with open arms. Mainly because he just wanted to know you, care about you and share some this life with you. That's it... in its simplest terms and understanding. Lucky just cared, about everyone. Like no-one we've met before. A true individual, inspired by Music, daily quotes (hand written on the board), a twist of a cup of coffee and some tasty treats... Lucky would send you on your way, out into the world, you would leave his presence inspired and exhilarated by a new day ahead, Every day. It's hard to think of a new day without Lucky. But in truth we're all lucky.. To have known him, his inspiration, his love for this life will inspire us for these long days ahead. Massapequa will not be the same without Lucky, but also is so much better for having him... As brief as it all felt, Lucky and his daily philosophies will inspire us for a long time coming. I only knew Lucky from the Perk. But he was one of those people you don't forget, Over coffee I would watch him. Lucky would describe everything there was to know about coffee to anyone who would listen, More importantly, he remembered the names of all his customers and would alway greet people as a friend. My wife is recovering from a stroke and has difficulty walking and talking, When I brought her to the Perk, Lucky welcomed her with open arms. He talked to her about coffee and tea and all the countries they came from, Lucky even drew a diagram to show us how to make a great ice tea. Most of all he told her not to give up. After that whenever I came in, he would ask about her. Lucky did that sort of thing for a lot of people. They talked and he listened. I hope he knew that he was appreciated, My wife and I offer our deepest condolences to Lisa and the children. Lucky, rest in peace. Michael and Patti

Lucky was one of the most original people I met, and even though I wasn't as close as my brother, the few times I had shared with him was always a memory that lasted. It's sad to see this world lose another unique person. My condolences. RIP brother. Someone like you will never be replaced.

What is there to say that has not already been said. Lucky was one of a kind, he touched so many lives in ways he probably never even knew he did. I spent a lot of time at the perk, and had many conversations with Lucky. I remember many times Lucky would tell me you need to slow down and not work so much your letting life pass you by and he was right, because of him I slowed down and I enjoy life just a little more these days. My kids loved Lucky anytime we would go in to the Perk he would always take time to talk to them and ask them what was going in in their lives. Life will not be the same without you my friend but, I can promise you, your memory will live on forever. Rest in Peace my friend. XO

Lucky was so genuine with every person he came in contact with. I would bring all my friends to the shop to come and meet him, and they would immediately kick it off. Lucky remembered every story I would share with him. I was looking forward to coming back from school for the summer and telling him about my experiences. He made the Perk feel like home to so many and will never be forgotten. We'll all miss you Lucky.

We are saddened to hear of the sudden and tragic loss of Lucky, Our deepest thoughts and sympathy goes out to Lisa, Sonny & Lily. Lucky was a regular volunteer at McKenna events such as Field Day and you could often bump into him at Marjorie Post pools and you can tell he was such a proud father who enjoyed spending quality time with his kids. I don't drink coffee but when I did come in for my Green Tea he always had a warm and friendly contagious smile that was he will be remembered for by all who knew him. Although no words can really help to ease the loss you bear, just know that you are very close in everyone's thoughts and prayers in the entire McKenna/Massapequa community.
