Giuliano “Tony” Schiozzi passed away peacefully surrounded by his wife and children on June 10, 2025, at the age of 76 after a long and courageous battle with inclusion body myositis.
Born in Italy, Tony immigrated to the United States where he built an extraordinary life rooted in service, family, and integrity. He proudly served his adopted country as a U.S. Army soldier and later as a respected NYPD Sergeant. His career and character were shaped by discipline, loyalty, and a deep belief in justice and service.
Tony was a man of many talents and passions: a boater, fisherman, private pilot, and conversationalist who could talk to anyone—cops, veterans, doctors, or plumbers—and often amazed people with how much he knew about their craft. He never met a stranger—only future friends. His ability to connect people was unmatched, and many who met him briefly remained part of his life for decades.
For 15 years, he faced the challenges of his disease with grace and quiet strength, never complaining, always finding gratitude for the life he lived.
Tony was also a passionate advocate. He championed the cause of the Leavenworth Ten—U.S. service members imprisoned for actions taken during combat—and never gave up on the fight for their justice. He was especially proud to have helped correct the headstones of Lance Corporal Richard David Kaler and NYPD Officer Gregory Foster to properly reflect their Navy Cross and Silver Star honors, respectively.
At his core, Tony was a devoted family man. He was a loving husband, a loyal friend, a dedicated father and a proud Nonno to his four grandchildren, who were the light of his life. His love was fierce and unwavering—if he loved you, you knew it. And if you were lucky enough to sit at his table, you were family.
Tony is survived by his beloved wife Denise; his children Maria and Anthony (Aryn); and his adored grandchildren Mischo (Sean), Baby Girl (Sofia), Eugenio (Anthony), and Albina (Angelina). His legacy of strength, compassion, and courage lives on in them.
A funeral Mass will be held on June 25 at 11:00 a.m. at Maria Regina R.C. Church.
