Guy Peter , 82 Massapequa NY
Passed away at Good Sam Hospital 3/13/25
Born , 5/18/42 in Williamsburg Brooklyn,
Dad had 2 siblings who have passed. Paul who was his older brother and Lynn who was his younger sister.
Dad was raised strict by his dad . He was never given anything except what he absolutely needed. That being said he had to get a job at a very young age. He was around 9 when he got a paper route. He saved money for a bicycle and later as he got older he bought a car. Everything he bought was earned by him and he took pride in everything. His family moved to Ozone Park for a while and then eventually bought a house on Ocean Ave in Massapequa where he met my mom at 17 years old, Kathyrn Manticos who was 15 years old. They married May 10, 1964 and I, Jill, came along 9 months later. They were 20 & 22 with a new baby. My parents were young but extremely driven people. They are both hard working and give everything they get involved with work or hobbies. His hobbies included, cameras, lizards, snakes, cars, jumping out of airplanes, car racing, motorcycles and sailing. Dad and I started sailing catamarans together in 4/74. We started racing them until 1986 and he went on to motor boat where he got involved in fishing and eventually started getting very interested in clamming. So much so that he started his own website, clamguy.com.
My dad joined the NYPD when he was 21. He became a detective a few years later as this was his dream. He worked undercover in Narcotics , the Racket squad which was very dangerous because he was working undercover chasing the mafia. He also worked at the 2nd precinct and the very stressful area of Roosevelt/ Freeport where he was overwhelmed with cases. The last few years, he was in the 7th precinct where quite frankly he was bored and the last year he moved to the Main office in Mineola.
My parents divorced in 1982 and dad met Patti Matis through a close friend and they fell in love right away. They married in 1985. Patti worked for the airlines which gave them flight benefits. This gave them the opportunity to travel around the world. Unfortunately, Patti and Dad divorced in 2003.
Dad retired in 97. . Patti’s mom was actually murdered when she was only 15 years old and the killer was never prosecuted. Dad made it his business after he retired to capture the man who did this and it actually became an episode on Dateline.
Dad started having all sorts of issues for the past 5 years but finally contracted Pancreatic cancer which was discovered towards the end of February and at that point he was at Stage 4. It had metastasized throughout his body. Thank God it took him quickly as I could not bare to see him suffer. He passed away peacefully in Good Sam Hospital on 3/13/25 shortly after midnight. Patti and I were there soon after.
He is survived by his daughter, Jill Lefavi and his granddaughter, Angelica Lefavi
Good Bye Dad/ Grandpa, rest in peace. We love you.
