Harold E. Deters “Harry”, of Amity Harbor, NY, passed away on May 10, 2025, at the age of 79. Born on April 2, 1946, Harry lived a life marked by service, devotion to family, and a love for the water.
Harry proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1964 to 1966. He went on to dedicate his career to public safety as a member of the Bureau of Special Operations with the Nassau County Police Department, from which he retired with distinction.
A devoted father, Harry was the beloved dad of Teresa Zagar (Stephen), Karen Mitchell (Steve), Suzanne Aselton (Donald), and Nancy Edzards (Robert). He was a cherished grandfather to Sydney, Brady, Kaity, Rachel, Jake, Olivia, Liliana, Daniel, Henry, Emmalee, and Robby, who brought immense joy to his life. He was the loving brother of the late Kathleen Kelly and the fond uncle of James Kelly and Christine Kennedy.
Harry found great happiness boating on the Great South Bay and enjoying time with friends in Kismet, Fire Island—places that brought him peace and connection. He will be remembered for his strength, dedication, and the deep love he had for his family and friends. His presence will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Harry’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, honoring his wish to support a cause close to his heart.
