FALDETTA – Irene M. (nee Fennelly) of Massapequa Park, New York, died peacefully on Saturday, August 24, 2019, surrounded by her loving family. She is predeceased by her husband, John P. Faldetta, and is survived by her children – Janice (Rich) Dobson, Ann, Carol (Kevin) Malone, Peter (Tricia Waring), Susan (David) Adams, John (Danielle) and Laura (Gregory) Begg. She was the loving grandmother of twelve grandchildren.Born in Frackville, Pennsylvania, Irene was the daughter of Earl and Margaret (Miller) Fennelly and the third of five children. Like many of her generation, she loved to dance to the Big Bands at such ballrooms as Lakewood Park. After graduating as Salutatorian at Immaculata Academy, she moved to Washington, DC where she worked for the Federal government as a legal secretary. After WWII ended, she moved to New York City, where she worked for Standard Oil. It was while attending a dance at Club Dominicana, St. Stephen parish in Manhattan, that she met her future husband and where they shared their mutual love of dancing that would last their lifetimes. They married in 1952 and moved to Massapequa Park where they raised seven children. Irene also continued her career working at Family Court in Westbury, NY.A lifelong churchgoer, Irene faithfully attended mass at St. Rose of Lima Church in Massapequa and was a member of the original “Wagon Wheelers.” Irene also had a great love of poetry and was able to recite many lines of long poems right up until her final days. Her extensive knowledge on a wide variety of subjects made her the family champion in Jeopardy and allowed her to finish crossword puzzles that nobody else could. She and John made many trips domestically and abroad with their friends and community groups to fulfill their love of travel.Viewing will be held on Thursday, August 29, from 2-4 and 7-9 at the Massapequa Funeral Home Inc. North Chapel, 1050 Park Blvd., Massapequa Park, NY 11762. The funeral Mass will be Friday, August 30, 11 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima R.C. Church. Interment will immediately follow at Grace Cemetery.
