I am so sorry for your loss. My deepest condolences to you and your family. I haven't spoken to Jimmy in many years. And decided to search for him. I am just learning of his passing. We worked together at Adelphi just over 20 years ago. I loved him. He was a true gentleman. And a big reason why I became a member of the NYPD. He guided and pushed me to pursue a career. We had many conversations. But what I remember the most is his fondness for the Carolina's. I remember his dream to move there. And he always enjoyed when the Crape Myrtles flowered. I always think about him when I see them flower down here in Florida. I will be planting one on my property in his honor. Rest in peace my friend. Till we meet again.
Gina Geraghty left a message on March 17, 2021:
Jim I miss you so much. The best times of my life were with you growing up. As an adult I always depended on you and you never let me down. You and Beth were always helping me out no matter what it was. What brother when he was shopping or on vacation would see something & say to Beth oh Gina would like that & surprise me with it many times. I could go on and on about you but will still talk to you every night. Love you brother.

Dearest Beth and Devon, Please accept my condolences on James' passing. I'll remember his jokes, his laughter, beautiful sparkling Irish blue eyes, and a smile that lit up the world around him. James' legacy of generosity, compassion and kindness to all, will never be forgotten, nor should it be. He is the Geraghty family hero, an NYPD family hero, and an all American hero. Beth, Devon and family, so sad for the loss of Jimmy. Over many years at OIB vacationing we always enjoyed all of you. It was obvious Jimmy was a man of strong family values, a good faithful person. Clearly he loved his profession of service with NYPD. We enjoyed our conversations over the past couple of months. He was so positive and thankful for all of his support. On angels wings may he be welcomed home. Love and prayers Charlie and Sherry

James was the sweetest man ever. He always had a nice thing to say and always willing to help. Anytime he saw me he would tell me how much he loved my garden in the spring. Thomas Geraghty left a message on March 4, 2021:
My brother Jim was one of the finest police officers i ever knew. We served together in the NYPD for 27 years. We were born into a police family. My uncle Bob, Uncle John, Uncle Jim and Uncle Tiny and his son my cousin Bobby all proceeded us into the Job. They were our childhood heroes..My youngest brother Chris followed years later and joined th NYPD later becoming a Nassau County Officer where he won a Medal of Honor in that Department. We all came through it ok . A few cuts and bruises and some broken bones but all in one piece. But on 9/11 that changed that.. Jimmy served at ground zero and although many years later the bad guys finally got one of us. I am so proud of you Jim you are the best brother anyone could have. I will miss you forever. I will never forget. His daughter Devon and her husband carry on the tradition as sergeants in the NYPD.. We will never let the bad guys win Jim.

I don’t think I’ll ever get a good deal on a car ever again. I’m going to miss you so much big brother. You were nutty and funny, but always gave great advice. You were much smarter then you led people to believe. Thank you for making my childhood fun. Riding in your taxi and scaring me with your Clearasil and flashlight. The best was when you did boing with your toes. Nobody can hold a candle to you Jim. You were the funniest, most self giving guy I ever met and I am proud to call you my brother. I know your Irish eyes are smiling in Heaven. Give mom a kiss for me. I’ll miss you bunches.

This is how I will remember my fourth brother. A kinder, more giving, selfless, funny person can’t be found. Whipping up a full-couse meal in a vacation rental, pulling a wild prank with baby monitors, or blatently cheating at a family poker game, Jimmy filled our lives with such joy and laughter. Heaven has received a special angel, but we have lost a piece of our hearts. ?
