James J. Walsh
Age 90, longtime resident of Massapequa, NY died peacefully at home on October 7. Jim was born 11/9/1930 in Highbridge section of the Bronx to Irish immigrants, James (Bosco) and Mary Walsh. He attended Sacred Heart grammar school, Regis High School and Fordham University. He was a CPA and started his career at Haskin and Sells and moved on to become a controller at Merrill Lynch. Jim also earned a master’s degree from Adelphi University, attending many classes as he commuted on the LIRR.
James and Catherine (Chickie) loved to travel with family and friends, especially enjoying trips to Bermuda, Ireland, Canada and Poland. Two great family vacations, one to Italy and a cruise to the Bahamas were especially memorable celebrating their youngest daughter’s fiftieth birthday and their 60th wedding anniversary. Yearly, the family spent a week together at Woodloch Pines in Pennsylvania. Jim loved to golf and particularly enjoyed a trip to Ireland with his son Jim, and two friends. He was an active parishioner at St Rose of Lima for many years.
James is survived by his wife of 68 years, Catherine, his son James and daughter in law Paula, his granddaughter Danielle, his daughter Donna and son in law Wiesiek Kecik and daughter Laurie Walsh. He is also survived by his sister in law, Nora Walsh and many nieces and nephews as well as his stepfamily in Poland.
James is predeceased by his brother, John; his sister and brother in law Joan and Ron Inkpen, and sister in law Helene Moran. He is also predeceased by his beloved grandson, Patrick J. Walsh.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visit the family during visiting hours at Massapequa Funeral Home (North Chapel) 1050 Park Blvd, Massapequa Park, NY on Tuesday, October 12 from 3-6pm. His Funeral Mass will be Wednesday at 11:30 at St Rose of Lima, 2 Bayview Ave, Massapequa, NY.
