Our deepest sympathy to John's family, loved ones and Benie. We were friends and neighbors of John for more than 40 years at East 64th street (NYC). During those years we shared, many memories laughs and good times. We always looked forward to seeing John's Christmas decorations, it really set the tone for the holiday's. John's humor and personality will live within us forever. He is a permanent fixture of our lives and memories. We miss him but will celebrate his life and thank God we know him. Once again, our deepest thoughts and wishes for the comfort of all John's loved ones. With Love, Iraida, Charlie and Luisa Charry

Prof. NJ Bradeen left a message on July 23, 2024:
As FIT Library Director(now retired) , I worked with John for many years. John and Benny attended my wedding in Camden, Maine and most recently last October 18th we actually belatedly toasted our shared birthday of 10/10 in Alabama at Benny’s lovely home on the “Mountain” that John so loved. John loved his trips to Alabama and I initially was sort of surprised that this Tony New York gentleman was so enamored with the area. But as John shared his Alabama experiences and life there over time I saw how John indeed made a home there with Benny and his friends and family get exponentially. That visit and dinner with the four of us was so special. That visit that my husband David and I made certainly showed us how southern hospitality is indeed legendary. John was so pleased about his becoming a part of Benny’s and his life in the magical mountains of Alabama. When I spoke to John since his diagnosis, he was always so focused on enjoying whatever time he had left. His positivity about such news of cancer was so brave and courageous. He told me joyfully how he, Benny and the Williams family were making the time and travel to be together. The FIT gathering held at the Marcus Library this summer meant so much to him as he told me about in one of our last phone calls. I as many will miss the future years of conversations or visits, but I remember his smile and laughter which makes me smile.

John and I worked together at FIT for more years than either one of us would've cared to admit. He was a lovely person with a dry sense of humor and he always managed to stay calm in any situation. I enjoyed the time we spent together and I will miss him.

Back in 1984 through 1987 John and I were an item as one would say. But then we broke up and still remained friends. I remember his parents and his home in Long Island. We would often visit. He told me about his cancer condition and we would often speak and I tried to give him hope. His death is not unexpected but it is a sad but hopeful remembrance for me. My condolences to Bennie into his family. I remember him with love, and also his religious devotion and his like for a good drink
