When news spread of John's passing at HSBC the following remembrances were shared with me:From Herb Richman: I am so sorry to hear this...He was a really good guy and I enjoyed working with him. From Dave Grady: I remember John as very friendly and helpful and just an all-around nice guy. Everytime I came across one of the Republic amortization schedules I always thought of John! From Dave Bodkin: Aw sorry to hear that. I remember sitting in that cafeteria listening this Navy stories while he sliced up an apple... very nice guy...

Dear Judy, Peter, Michael, Nancy and Danny (Molly too!)How very sad we were to hear the news of John's passing. We will always remember him as a gentle man who had the kindest heart. Who overflowed with happiness talking about his family and his pets. It is because of John and Judy that our family included two golden retrievers. My husband Craig met John at International Paper Co. in 1978. They immediately became friends and when John later came to work for Republic Bank and a job opened up in the tax dept. he called Craig. They worked together at Republic for 15 years and later on at HSBC after the bank merger.John and Craig were "like souls" yet different in many ways. Craig being the "workaholic" often skipped lunch while John understood the need to go out for an hour and take a walk to recharge your batteries. it wasn't long that their lunchtime walks together became a daily ritual and I credit John as the only one who was able to accomplish this feat!John and Craig reveled in sharing the accomplishments of their children and the antics of their pets. And we were delighted to share in the joy of the wedding of his daughter Nancy. When John retired he often met Craig for lunch in the city and when Craig would come home those nights there was an extra wide smile on his face for having shared time with his best friend from work.Judy I wish there was something we could say to express our deep saddness over John's passing but we know the past few years have been difficult for him and so we take comfort in the fact that he is now at peace. Please know we will pray for strength for your family to get through the next few days. We will always remember John with deep affection and love!Love Denise & Craig (Lassen)
