John Thomas Dudek, age 77, passed away on Friday, July 26, 2024 at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, NY.
He was born on May 12, 1947 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Francis “Frank” and Frances (Szczecina) Dudek. Beloved husband of Dorothy (Kurnides) Dudek. Devoted father of John Dudek and wife Averi, Allison Higgins and husband Benjamin, Kristen Kalkau and husband Greg, Suzanne Dudek and husband Chris McAloney. Cherished grandfather of Hailey, Caitlin, Jonah, and Julian. He also leaves behind brother Joe Dudek, sisters Audrey Klich and Andrea Ceonzo; brother-in-law Michael Kurnides; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Raised in Greenpoint, Brooklyn he later moved to Massapequa Park, NY with Dorothy to raise their family. John was a proud United States Army veteran, having served as a Second Lieutenant for the 1st Infantry Division in Vietnam. He later spent many years as a locomotive engineer for Metro-North Railroad before retiring in 2014 to focus on his family, fishing, travel, and many other interests.
John will be greatly remembered for his unique and unrivaled blend of loving kindness, deep pride, wisdom, and witty sense of humor. He was always there for anyone with a big hug, firm handshake, and a desire to listen and share stories. Especially when it came to the love of his family.
