Kevin Birney, born on May 27, 1972, in Bethpage, was the second son of Pat and Ray Birney. Kevin, an adoring husband to Susan and a loving father to Kristen and William, also cherished his role as a dog dad to Kipper. He was an exceptional brother to Ray and Mike. He was an admired brother-in-law, uncle, and godfather. A deep commitment to family, sports, and community characterized his life.

Kevin excelled as an athlete at Massapequa High School, particularly in football and lacrosse. He proudly contributed to the 1989-90 undefeated State Champion Massapequa Chiefs football team. After high school, he attended Scranton University, which would set him on a trajectory to become a successful businessman.

Immediately following graduation, Kevin embarked on a career with State Farm, quickly making a name for himself and becoming the youngest State Farm Agent in New York. Kevin truly embodied the company’s motto of being “a good neighbor” and was “always there” for everyone. His honesty and noble character earned him the respect and admiration of clients and colleagues.

Kevin’s love for his family was immeasurable, and he treasured his time with them, whether relaxing on the front porch or sitting by the pool, on vacations, or, of course, the countless hours spent on the fields watching them compete in all their sporting events. Kevin loved lots of music and Sunday dinners. His smile could light up a room and the hearts of his family and friends.

While there wasn’t a sport he couldn’t coach, Kevin’s number one passion was lacrosse. As an exceptional coach and mentor, Kevin guided many young athletes throughout Massapequa. Known for his thoughtful and caring nature, he had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel special, both on and off the field.

All who knew him will cherish Kevin’s legacy of kindness, integrity, and dedication in all he did. His impact on his family, friends, the many young athletes he mentored, and the entire Massapequa community will be remembered and celebrated.

So very sorry to hear of Kevin’s passing. I went to school with Kevin from K-12, and his name is one of the first names that comes to mind when I think of Hawthorn School classmates. Loved and respected by all, just an all around great guy. While we weren’t close friends, we were always cool with each other. Condolences and blessings for the Birney family.

Kevin and I spent years playing Football and Lacrosse together. Even though we haven’t seen each other years I consider him a great friend. He will be sorely missed. Rest peacefully Kevin.

I'm so very sorry to hear of Kevin's passing. I have had the privilege of caring for his dental hygiene as his hygienist for many decades. He will be sorely missed. It was my pleasure to have him as a friend and patient. Rest in peace Kevin.

Kevin was more than just a client. I always looked forward to meeting with him and talking family, sports, business etc. We shared being fans of the New York Football Giants. He will surely be missed by all whose lives he touched over the years.

Kevin and I grew up together playing Mohawk lacrosse, Mustang football and High School football. I have had the pleasure of knowing Kevin from the age of eight. Kevin was a friend and teammate who always exemplified the finest qualities of anyone I have ever known. It was an honor to have Kevin as a friend. I will always remember that smile and his gentle manor. The smile that launched the Chunky Cambell soup campaign. In High School Kevin was our football team's Center. I will always remember walking into the huddle and seeing that smile, the leadership he commanded and his eagerness to pancake whoever lined up against him. I will miss you and would like to extend my deepest sympathy to the entire Birney family. Kevin was simply THE BEST! Silent count...... until we meet again. God Bless!

Some of my fondest childhood memories are with Kevin. Whether it was a class in grade, middle or high school, playing MHS football together, shooting hoops at Brady Park, summers at Tobay, a BBQ at 169 Pine street or the many visits to Scranton University. Kevin was always there for a laugh, a clever comment or sage-like piece of advice when needed. I treasure these memories and our friendship. He will surely be missed. #takentosoon
