Laurel Jean McPhee, 63, sadly passed from this life to her eternal life on Sunday March 13, 2022, with her husband and family by her side in Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip, NY.
Laurel was born on November 16, 1958 in Glen Cove Hospital, Glen Cove, NY to Ann and George McPhee. Laurel was their third child and second daughter.
Laurel was raised in Massapequa, NY where she attended Unqua Grammar School, McKenna Jr. High School and graduated from Massapequa High School in 1976, Growing up on Block Boulevard during the 60’s and 70’s with her 2 sisters and 2 brothers. It was a great neighborhood with tons of of kids and tons of fun. She loved Music, Fashion, Art and hanging out with her countless friends. Life was adventurous and many memories were made in those years.
Laurel was beautiful, hilarious, had a great sense of humor, popular at school and was a lot of fun to be around. Her creative charisma was delightful as was her way of being. She was a natural at anything she pursued from Stylist for Macy’s Herald square’s advertising department for many years, Dental Assistant, Chef, Hospitality & Food Services for top L.I. Hotels and Restaurants. Laurel was friendly, kind, sweet soul, open hearted, fun loving as well as nurturing. She was willing to help the less fortunate, volunteering at a local soup kitchen and donating her time.
In 1991, Laurel met Richard “Marty” Nielsen who was also from Massapequa. The two were inseparable for 31 years. Marty was Laurel’s husband, lifelong love, companion, confidant, and best friend. They loved to go to Manhattan to museums, concerts, listen to live music and go to all the restaurants & bars. Montauk was a favorite get away for both as well as the Northfork. They lived in Bay Shore & Amityville where they enjoyed fishing and crabbing off the docks and outdoor activities by the bay. Laurel was a wonderful wife, terrific cook, hard worker, ran the household and was an all-around good sport. Her life with Marty was always busy and fulfilling.
In addition to her loving husband Richard “Marty” Nielsen and his family, Laurel is survived by her four siblings and their families. Her brother Martin McPhee, his wife Jeanne, their two daughters Coral Edwards and her husband Marlon, their sons Hudson, Graham, and West. Kaely McPhee James and her husband Justin, her sister Heather Pozos and her son Christian Pozos. Tammy McPhee and her two daughters, Laurel Mooney and her husband Michael Yosua and their daughter Maya,. Rae Mooney and her husband Bryan Richter and their daughter Taylor. Georgie McPhee and his wife Kelly and their son Gehrig McPhee and daughter Riley McPhee. Her father-in-law, Richard Nielsen, Sr. Her Sister-in-law Karen Bishoff and her son Stephen Bishoff. Her brother-in-law Willilam Neilsen and his wife Jennifer and their daughter Jade Nielsen and son Kyle Nielsen.
