Leonard Walter Schiede, 80, died peacefully on Sunday, February 19, 2023. He was born in Mineola, New York on October 24, 1942, the beloved son of the late John and Jean Schiede. Leonard spent his childhood in Floral Park, New York. He was a 1960 graduate of Sewanhaka High School. He completed one year of higher education before working with Grumman in 1962. Leonard met his future wife, Linda, at a church social. The two married in 1964 and settled in Farmingdale to raise their family. Leonard worked hard to being a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He worked as a switchman for the New York Telephone Company for over 25 years, before retiring in 2001. He was an active member of the Captree Power Squadron, with whom he served as Commander in 1986-1987. He enjoyed family gatherings, socials with the power squadron, boating, fishing, clamming, cruising, vacationing in Lake George, NY, home improvement work and old movies, especially Bing Crosby & Fred Astaire musicals. In his prime, he was the epitome of the ”Do-It-Yourself” homeowner, never wasting a moment during his downtimes to repair the home, machinery, appliances, televisions or his cars. Leonard was predeceased by his wife, Linda. He is survived by his children: Daniel Schiede (Mary Margaret) of Massapequa, James Schiede (Lisa) of East Northport, Debora Martin (Joseph) of Hainesport, New Jersey, Gary Schiede (Mary) of Commack, 9 grandchildren Peter and Bobbie Lynn Schiede, Megan and Johnathan Schiede, Maya, Ty and Gavin Martin, Kaitlyn and Liam Schiede. Leonard is also survived by several nieces and a nephew.
