Deeply loved by many, Lorraine Geyer left this earth unexpectedly on October 16, 2024, at the age of 61. Born to her beloved parents, Mary Alice Sutton and Robert Baron, Lorraine’s family was her world. She grew up in Massapequa Park NY, and is survived by her loving siblings: Jane Baron, Patricia Baron, Robert Baron, and Anthony Baron. Lorraine is also survived by her cherished husband of 29 years, George Geyer Jr., and their two precious daughters, Kristi and Kayla, whom they raised together in Lindenhurst, NY, before retiring to Milford, PA.
From an early age, Lorraine was organized and driven, seamlessly weaving her incredible artistic talents into every aspect of her life. She studied art in college and began her career as a textile designer, a role she truly loved. However, as her family became her priority, Lorraine transitioned to working in preschool education, first in administration and then as a teacher. This shift allowed her to create a loving and nurturing home for her daughters, her greatest source of joy.
A major life change came with her breast cancer diagnosis, which she faced bravely with the support of her family. She also found invaluable support from the Babylon Breast Cancer Coalition. After her recovery, Lorraine became an avid volunteer for the coalition, helping other women navigate their personal cancer journeys. She eagerly participated in various fundraising events and, recognizing her talents, the BBCC board of directors invited her to serve on their team.
Wanting to instill the importance of giving back in her daughters, Lorraine took on the responsibility of maintaining the Vision of Hope Garden. She even formed a special club for her girls and their friends to bond over gardening and community service, affectionately named The Girls Club, after a nickname shared among the three of them. Lorraine rallied local Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, their parents, and numerous community businesses and leaders to support her volunteer projects, earning the respect of all who worked with her.
When the coalition expanded its services to other women’s cancers and sought to enhance the garden, Lorraine’s artistic vision flourished. She personally designed the spectacular layout and led the charge to bring it to life, coordinating everything from fundraising and permits to construction and planting. The ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the culmination of her efforts and now stands as a lasting legacy to her creative and dedicated spirit. This garden represents the journey of many, infused with the energy and inspiration Lorraine imparted to her daughters and the countless young women whose lives she touched while teaching them the joys of gardening and community service. Her dedication was palpable, and her generous spirit is beautifully reflected in every inch of that garden.
Family, including furry family members, held a sacred place in Lorraine’s heart. Friendships also brought her great joy, and even in retirement, she and George made new friends. They loved camping and motorcycle riding together, cherishing the camaraderie those activities fostered. Lorraine also found solitude in the outdoors, capturing its beauty through photography, which blossomed during her retirement.
Lorraine was a remarkable woman whose creativity, kindness, strength, and unwavering love influenced everyone around her, especially her daughters, who struggle to find enough words to describe their wonderful mother. She lived life to the fullest, reminding us all to be kind to one another. Check in on your friends—your strong friends, your quiet friends, your happy friends. Take care of yourself, and don’t hesitate to ask for help when you need it.
