Madeline C. Wissemann (nee Haller) of Calverton, NY formerly of Woodhaven, NY, was born in Brooklyn on June 7, 1926. She returned home to Heaven on May 19, 2023 at the age of 96 years.
Madeline is predeceased by her husband Frederick J. Wissemann, to whom she was married for 52 years. She is also predeceased by her parents, Matthew E. Haller and Madeline C. Schumm, and her five siblings, Catherine Oftring (Francis, deceased), Ann Kroenert (Robert, deceased), Matthew Haller (Irma, deceased), Claire Menke (Edward, deceased) and Francis Haller (Grace).
Madeline is survived by her six children: Frederick (Karen), William (Barbara), Susan Kahn (Jeffrey, deceased), Maribeth Cigna, Monica O’Kane (Michael) and Matthew (Veronica, deceased); 10 grandchildren: Elizabeth Conlon (Jeremy), Genevieve Costigan, Regina Cigna, Lauren Eschborn (Alex), Angelo Christopher Cigna, Katrina Lavin (James), Hilary McSherry (Colin), Alex O’Kane (Casey), Ryan O’Kane, and Peter Wissemann; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Madeline grew up in Woodhaven, Queens and attended St. Elizabeth School in Ozone Park and Dominican Commercial High School in Jamaica. She was a Registered Nurse, a graduate of the St. Catherine’s Hospital Nursing School. Her career included St. Catherine’s Hospital, Terrace Heights Hospital, Franklin General Hospital, and St. John’s Queens Hospital, from which she retired. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America.
Among her many interests, Madeline enjoyed card playing, word games, knitting, crocheting, and watching her beloved New York Mets. She was enthusiastic and gregarious and loved a good party or noisy gathering surrounded by family and friends.
