Margaret Gretschel ,age 92, of Rexford, NY (formerly of Massapequa), died peacefully on December 16, 2017. Born in Long Island City, NY, she graduated high school in 1943 & began work at Abercrombie & Fitch in Manhattan. She married Robert Gretschel in 1946, moving to Massapequa in 1951 where they owned The Village Delicatessen on Broadway in Massapequa for over 30 years. Active in the Massapequa Lions and MFD Auxiliaries & co-leader of a Girl Scout Troop. She loved traveling & boating with their special friends. Margaret is predeceased by Robert, her husband of 57 years & her parents Rose & Joseph Petercsak. She is survived by her brother Rudy Petercsak (Lilette) of Fort Pierce, FL., her children Laura Gretschel (Frank Miale), Linda Detlefsen (Keith), Robert Gretschel, Jr. (Lynn) & son in law Thomas J. Law, her grandchildren Michelle Beaulieu, Kristin Law, Jessica Detlefsen, Lisa Detlefsen & grandson in law Robert Beaulieu and great grandchildren Eric, Ambrose & Deva.

Our mother, Shirley, was Margaret's table mate on the Green Unit at Daughters of Sarah. They liked to talk to each other and share stories of living in Astoria. Mom really missed Margaret when she was moved to a different unit and was very sad to hear that she had passed. We send condolences from our family to yours.

My sincere condolences to the family. Margaret was one of the most giving to other people while I knew her at the village. It was my pleasure to help her with work orders. she always had a smile though I knew she was not feeling well, I have missed her since she left and think of her when I pass her apartment.
