Margaret “Peggy” Mary Finnerty peacefully entered into rest, surrounded by her 4 children, on April 3, 2022. She was born on March 28, 1941, to Thomas and Margaret Neenan in the Bronx, NY. One of 5 children, she spent her early years in the Bronx and attended Cathedral High School in Manhattan. She met the love of her life, Martin “Marty” Finnerty and they were married on November 3, 1969. Marty and Peggy started a family and moved to Massapequa Park, NY, where they were blessed to raise their 4 children. Peggy’s primary occupation was to be the best mom and Grandma. She also spent 20 years in sales at JC Penney, where she made many lifelong friends.
In her later years, Peggy was very active in the lives of her 8 grandchildren, attending school events, cheering her grandchildren on from the sidelines, and always insisting that she treat for everyone’s birthday cakes. She celebrated her 80th birthday last year with a backyard party and just treated the whole family to an amazing ski weekend in January. She was thrilled to spend the whole weekend together playing games, telling stories and enjoying each other’s company.
Peggy was known for her kind heart, quick Irish wit, deep faith, and tremendous strength. She always made people laugh and could often be found in the Whitewood Landing clubhouse playing cards, bingo and Mexican tiles. She also served on the board of directors for Whitewood Landing and was most recently the Treasurer.
Peggy is predeceased by her husband, Marty, her parents, her sisters Geraldine Vetter, Dorothy Lantry, Joanne Ryan, and her brother, Edwin Neenan. She is survived by her daughters Lori (Richard) Annunziato of Massapequa, Mariann (John) Duffy of Massapequa Park, and Kerry (David) Finnerty of Carlsbad, CA; and her son James (Kara) of Chappaqua, NY. She will be greatly missed by her adoring grandsons Daniel, Ryan, and Matthew Annunziato, John Duffy, Braden Black, and William Finnerty; granddaughters Kailyn Duffy and Marty Finnerty; and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Peggy’s name to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital
