Markela passed away in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on January 18, 2025 at the age of 88.  She is survived  by her son, Peter Boulukos (Tracy), daughter, Valerie Bouris (Greg), son-in-law Nicholas Skelos (surviving husband of Helen Skelos, her predeceased daughter), and grandchildren: Basil (Samantha Skelos) and George Skelos (fiance Megan), Nicholas and Markela Bouris, Alexis Colosimo (Joey) and great granddaughter Lucia Colisimo. She is also survived by her sister, Kalle Andromidas, nephews, George, Nicholas, Jacob and niece, Pamela Andromidas.

Markela was born on August 24, 1936 in New York City, NY to Michael and Paraskevi Kkayantas.  When Markela was five years old, the family moved to Freeport, NY to pursue a fruit and vegetable business opportunity.  Markela graduated Freeport High School in 1954 and after also graduating Mrs. Skinner’s secretarial school in Garden City, NY was placed in the business world.  Her career continued for many years as an executive personal assistant to the General Manager at the Long Island Marriott Hotel property in Uniondale.

Markella married George, the love of her life, in 1957 and moved to Merrick, NY.  She was an incredibly strong and loving woman who became a widow at 42 and raised her children as a tough, no-nonsense mom.  She was warm and loving and the Boulukos’ home was an open meeting place for friends and relatives.  Markela loved the theatre, reading, the beach, playing cards and scrabble.
