Thomas E. DeSousa
December 19, 1944 ~ July 11, 2024
Thomas DeSousa “Tommy” aged 79, a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend departed our world on July 11, 2024 surrounded by his wife, children and grandchildren leaving behind a legacy that will be cherished by all who knew him.
Born to Filomena and Herman DeSousa on December 19, 1944 in Harlem NY. Tommy married Diane Bestafka in March of 1966. Together they created a beautiful family of five children. Donna, Frank, Anthony, Thomas, and Michael.
Known for his eloquence and ability to captivate any audience, Tommy held court wherever he went, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the pleasure of knowing him. A devoted husband, loving father, cherished brother, and doting grandfather, Tommy’s family was his greatest pride and joy. His involvement in the lives of those around him was profound, and he left them with an endless collection of stories that will never fade away.
He found joy in playing handball, traveling to Deerfield Beach, FL in the winter, listening to music, and spending time with his friends and family.
Tommy is survived by his siblings, wife, five children, and eleven grandchildren. His love for his dogs was well-known, and his hard work and determination led to the founding of his business, Marine Bulkheading Inc., in 1981. His legacy continues through the dedication of his sons, Michael, Anthony, and Thomas, who now run the business.
He was a movie star. An institution. Larger than life, a handsome and charismatic man who loved his family fiercely.
Tommy will be deeply missed by his family and friends, but his spirit, stories, and the impact he made on their lives will live on forever.
“You’re right about that”, as he would say…
