Maureen Gribbon D’Aquisto, passed away at her home on September 3, 2020, after a brief illness. The third of seven children of Francis and Eleanor Gribbon, Maureen grew up within a happy tribe of siblings, cousins and friends on First Avenue, Massapequa Park. She attended St Rose of Lima Elementary, and Queen of the Holy Rosary Academy, taught by the Sisters of St Dominic, the Order of Preachers. Of the seven children, ‘Mighty Moe’ was the one who dared a bit of rebellion, and frequently caught the attention of our teachers. She delighted us with her very offkey renditions of the song “Moon River”, she was musically tone deaf, but sang anyway and enjoyed our laughter. Her children and grandchildren were her greatest joy, she devoted her life to ensure their health and happiness.
Maureen went on to receive a Masters in Speech Therapy, from SUNY Plattsburg and enjoyed a long and successful career working initially at the Cleary School for the Deaf and then with Western Suffolk BOCES, at the James E Allen School, retiring in 2011. She is pre-deceased by our parents, Francis and Eleanor, and our beloved sister, Maryann McConnell. She is survived by her daughters Lauren Diaz (Pedro), and Caitlin D’Aquisto, (Alex), her grandchildren Liam and Audrey Diaz, Lily D’Aquisto, and Alejandro D’Aquisto- Rivas. And she is survived by her siblings Ellen Hotz, (Bob), Patricia Randazzo (Jack), Francis Gribbon (Maria), Grace Banker (Bart) and Eileen McLoughlin (Jim). Also survived by dozens of cousins, nieces and nephews.
