Olinda Joaquina Carvalho, of Massapequa Park, NY, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, June 28, 2021, at the age of 94.  As was her hope, she received the final blessings of the Catholic Church and was surrounded by family and friends when she left this world.  She was the beloved wife of the late Peter Francis Carvalho and loving mother of Jennifer Maria Carvalho, John Thomas Carvalho (Lianne), Janet Rosana (Paul Musacchia), and Jeffrey Anthony Carvalho (Susan).  She was also the adored grandmother of Ignatius Anthony Mascarenhas, Jr. (Khatera), Jillian Frances Mascarenhas (Roberto Sferra), Christina Maria (John Christopher Falco), Alexandra Linda (Kenneth Michael Seaman), Brittany Ann Musacchia and Emily M. Carvalho; the proud great-grandmother of Ignatius Anthony Mascarenhas, III, Rafael Francesco Mascarenhas Sferra, Jack Paul Falco, Leandro Ruggero Mascarenhas Sferra, Ariana Andréa Mascarenhas and Luke Christopher Falco; and cherished Auntie to many nieces and nephews around the world.  Olinda is also survived by her brother, Carmo Phillip Neri Fernandes, and was preceded in death by her brother, Thomas Sisto Fernandes, and sister, Basilia Regina D’Souza. She was loved by all who knew her.

Born on September 20, 1926, in Panjim, Goa, Portuguese-India, Olinda grew up in Aldona, Goa, then moved to Bombay, India, where she was married.  In 1972, she brought her family to New York, first living in Lefrak City then Bayside, Queens. She was a seamstress at high-end boutiques in Manhattan until retiring to devote herself to caring for her grandchildren.  She later lived in Morris Plains, NJ before moving to Long Island.  She loved spending time with her family, gardening, making family photo albums and scrapbooks, cooking, knitting, traveling and going on pilgrimages with her Church groups, especially to Portugal and Italy.

Visitation will be Friday, July 2, 2021 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Massapequa Funeral Home, 1050 Park Blvd, Massapequa Park, NY 11762.  The Funeral Mass will be Saturday, July 3, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, 2 Bayview Ave, Massapequa, NY 11758.  Interment to follow at St. Charles Cemetery, 2015 Wellwood Ave Farmingdale, NY 11735
