Steven Anthony Bertoncini was born October 24, 1968, in Amityville, New York. Son of the late
Louis and Lucille Bertoncini passed away December 8, 2024, at the age of 56 surrounded by his
loving family. Steven’s personality was larger than life and his generosity knew no bounds.
Steven loved life. He was quick with a smile and made friends wherever he went. His kindness
and sense of humor drew people in.
His family and friends were so very important to him. Steven’s network of love was so large but
it wasn’t until the past few weeks that we’ve truly come to understand just how immense that
network really was. So many friends, co-workers, and community members have reached out
because they missed his smiling face. So often they shared fond memories of their times
together with Steve and everyone expressed such heartfelt concern for him when they found out
he was sick.
Growing up on the Great South Bay there was no better day for him than being out on the water.
To Steve it didn’t matter if he was fishing, clamming, or crabbing. His boat and the water was his
happy place and he lived to be out there.
Steven worked for Giaquinto Masonry, Inc. for 35 years as a Mason Tender and was a member
of the General Building Laborers Local 66. Not only was Steve’s personality larger than life, so
were his abilities. We estimated that Steve lifted more than 25,000 pounds each day at work as
he supplied mortar for 40 masons, tending to two mixers. Since Steven hasn’t been working, his
foreman had to replace him with 5 men to accomplish what Steve could by himself. Truly a
testament to the man our brother was.
Steven is survived by his Sisters Karen McGinn Elmore, MaryLou Layeni, Brother, Louis
Bertoncini, Sister Maria (Ronald) Dolginko brother, Robert (Susan) Bertoncini, and 11 nieces
and nephews.
There are no words to express the hole in our hearts with him not with us he leaves in the
hearts of everyone who knew him. His legacy will live on in all of us when we remember the
laughs and shenanigans that Steven was known so well for
