Agnes Veronica Kennedy (Hanevy) of Massapequa Park, N.Y., died peacefully on October 6, 2022. Born December 12, 1926, she was 95 years old but always considered herself a “recycled teenager.” While she had the nickname “Lucky,” her family and friends were the lucky ones for having known her.
She was born in Manhattan and raised in Astoria, Queens. After meeting at a St. Patrick’s Day dance, she married John Kennedy on June 25, 1953, and gave birth to daughter Patricia in 1954. In 1961, they moved to Massapequa Park. She was a longtime member of the Massapequa Park Senior Center, which she always referred to as her “club.”
Agnes loved Ireland and Irish culture, New York City’s St. Patrick’s Day parade, Frank Sinatra, donuts, coffee, bingo, word searches, phone calls, neighbors, storytelling, and above all else, her family. Agnes was always telling stories. She loved to talk about her trip to Ireland, kissing the Blarney Stone, skipping school to see Frank Sinatra, living in Astoria, working at the Navy yard, and so much more.
She is survived by her daughter Patricia Kohlmeyer (Robert), grandchildren Christine Huber, Robert Kohlmeyer (Hilary), Kevin Kohlmeyer, and Mallary Kohlmeyer, two great-grandchildren Henry and Miles Woodward Kohlmeyer, and many great friends. She was preceded in death by her husband John, parents Margaret and John Hanevy, brother John (June), and grandson-in-law Hans Huber.
