We are sad to share that Aimée Christine Mendoza (née Allison) passed away in her sleep, Saturday, June 4, 2022.

One positive outcome from a fifteen-year battle with a rare kidney disease, Medullary Sponge Kidney, was that it allowed her to let go of the insignificant things and to just enjoy the people and places. She had a strong connection to animals and nature, loved to travel, to try new things, and to take joy in the little moments.

We are sad, yet thankful for all of the time we spent together through the years. She always made us feel cherished and loved, doting on everyone who visited. She was a hugger, and always made sure you didn’t get far into the house without one. She was the matriarch of the Mendoza Tribe and will be truly missed.

Aimée was born on April 30, 1974, in Brooklyn, New York. She grew up in Massapequa and graduated from Massapequa High School a year early (class of 1991). She had five children, ran a state-licensed childcare, and still managed to concurrently earn a bachelor’s and master’s from Stony Brook University (class of 2009) in Earth and Space Science, made the Dean’s List, and obtained additional teaching certifications in Chemistry, Physics, and Environmental Science.

Aimée lived to educate; she was a devoted teacher and union member of the West Babylon School District for nearly fifteen years, where she taught High School science, created an annual STEM Night, and led the Math and Science Honor Society. Her incalculable contributions to the community will live on in the actions of those hearts and minds she impacted over her 48 years.

Aimée believed viewings were too sad for everyone and requested that her family host a celebration of her life. Please join them on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the Massapequa Funeral Home, 4980 Merrick Rd, Massapequa Park, NY, 11762. Per her request, please dress colorfully.

I am so sorry to hear the news of Aimee’s passing. My heart hurts for her family. My prayers are with the Mendoza and Allison family.

Mrs. Mendoza was my current chemistry teacher. She was always there for her students and made class fun. She loved to listen to music and she always put a smile on our faces. She made the environment of the classroom comfortable. She was an amazing teacher and one of the best I ever had. I will truly miss her. ??

Mendoza was my current 10th grade Chem teacher. There was never a day where she didn’t make the class fun and enjoyable. Aimee was an incredible woman, mother, and teacher. I strive to be as caring as she was. She will be in my thoughts always.

She would make a bad day a good day just from her amazing energy. She was so funny and told the best stories, and she talked about her family and told nice stories about them which she loved so much. Whenever a teacher passes away, it brings a sense of sorrow to the entire district. Parents, teachers, and students of past and present come together in solidarity to mourn the loss of a teacher in the district. I remember the day that Mr. Egbert had passed away, and the feelings of devastation feel too vivid. I couldn’t even believe the news of his passing. The same could be said about Mrs. Mendoza. Although I’ve never had her or spent enough time with her, through these condolences I understand the impact she had on the children she taught. An infectious personality and enthusiasm that shined. A thorough teacher that only sought out the best for her children. All of these signs are indications of a once in a lifetime person who will be missed dearly by every person she has touched. Mrs. Mendoza was my 9th grade earth science teacher, she made such a huge impact on my life due to the advise not only for schooling but about life outside of school as well. To this day 12 or so years later I still talk about the amount of fun I had in her class and spoke to Mrs. Mendoza here and there, she wasn’t just a teacher to anyone walking the west Babylon halls, she was a safe place and a mentor as well. You don’t find many people with the compassion she had, I send my deepest condolences to her friends and family and please know that she touched many many peoples hearts throughout her life, mine is just one of I’m sure hundreds of examples!

I never had Mrs Mendoza as a teacher but throughout my freshman year I would attend her tutorials because my friend had her and she would help me with my test corrections for earth science. She wasn’t even my teacher and still took her time to help me when I was struggling. She was always so sweet. May she rest in peace.

I met Aimee through our sons, Billy and JT. She was a brilliant woman who cared so much about the kids. She was a gifted earth science teacher. I hired her to help my daughter pass the regents. Aimee taught her for 6 weeks. Julie said she learned more in those six weeks than she learned the whole year from her teacher. Anyway, Julie got a 95 on the regents. I told everyone to hire her as a tutor. I always wished she worked in Lindenhurst. I'll pray for your whole family. She was a very special lady!

Mrs. Mendoza was truly a brilliant teacher and a wonderful scientist- full of curiosity and passion for the field, which shined in the way she taught. I had the pleasure of having her twice in 9th grade Earth science and 11th grade chemistry. Her and I worked closely together in the Science Club and the annual STEM night. Mrs. Mendoza was a wonderful mentor to me and provided guidance as a young women in STEM, and always told me how proud she was of my achievements as I progress through my science career. What a loss to the West Babylon school community, and even more so the field of science. She was the epitome of what a true scientist is. My thoughts and prayers are with her family, friends, and the students who's lives she has touched over the years, just like she did to mine.

I’m terribly sorry for your loss, This is one of the most difficult things you can experience and I’m sorry it’s happening to your family. I know I didn’t know most of the Mendoza family but if there’s anything that anyone needs I’ll be here.

She was my earth science teacher last year and she always checked on me even if i was just tired. she always made people smile and laugh and this year she would come into my chemistry class every morning and she would say goodmorning to me. she had a great heart and was rarely angry. i’ll miss her and so many other students and people will.

This is tough but I’d like to think about the memories I’ve shared with her with a smile on my face. She has not only been a teacher but an emotional support to me when I needed it most. Mrs. Mendoza was my boy’s science teacher. They absolutely loved her. She was an amazing teacher and her death is a tremendous loss. My thoughts and prayers are with her family.

I met Aimee when Cristian and my oldest son, Viktor, were classmates at Grace Nursery School in Lindenhurst. Over the years, we would lose touch and then reconnect. This happened several times. We both ended up having 5 children and we both became high school teachers. We also both had chronic conditions and dealt with pain daily, so this was something we shared. I am so deeply sorry for your loss! I know she was the glue that help your family together. May God give you all the strength to go on without her. Rest in Peace, Aimee. Xo

I’m more than honored to of had her as a teacher for the past 2 years. She’s had such a wonderful impact on my life. She was an amazing teacher, and such a great outlet to go to if you ever needed to talk.

Our Condolences to the family. I had the pleasure speaking and talking to Aimee many times last year when by accident my Son was put into her class. We didn't realize he was in the wrong class until after the first semester. We spoke and she assured me she would make it work and she did. She was amazing with him. I was truly saddened to learn of Aimee’s passing. Aimee introduced me to Metallica in 9th grade and taught me to take myself less seriously and step outside my comfort zone. We reconnected after high school thanks to social media and I could see she sucked the marrow out of life and gave it to her family and students. The world will truly miss her light.
