Caroline Johnston (née Azzopardi) was born in Valletta, Malta, on June 15, 1928. She passed away in the early morning of September 23, 2022, at Sunrise Assisted Living in Dix Hills, N.Y. She was 94.
Caroline met George A. Johnston in Tripoli, Libya, where they married in 1947. Shortly thereafter, the couple settled in Massapequa Park, N.Y. in the home where they lived for over 65 years. She was a dedicated homemaker and beloved mother and grandmother, who was always ready to lend a helping hand to her family, neighbors and others in need. With her husband and family, she enjoyed the outdoors and spent many summers enjoying the beaches and waters of Long Island. She loved baking and knitting. After George’s death in 2012, Caroline kept on in the family home for some years until, due to deteriorating health, she moved to assisted living.
Caroline leaves behind two adult children, Steven Johnston and Linda Johnston Muhlhausen; grandchildren Keith, Lindsey, and Alex Johnston, and Emily and Diana Muhlhausen; a great-grandchild, Nathaniel Johnston, and her niece, Bronwyn Hogan. She was predeceased by three brothers and two sisters, and a nephew, Adrian Hogan.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Caroline’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association.
