Maria Zabbatino left a message on October 8, 2023:
Eulogy: Yesterday I lost my best friend, my grandma/my “Ma” as my brothers and I would call her. She was truly that, our “Ma” and second mom. We were so lucky to have lived with her our whole life. I’m grateful for the extra time, the hard conversations we got to have, and the months of hand holding and spoon feeding her the way she used to do for me. No matter how much she suffered these last six months, she never questioned her faith in God. In her weakest moments she told us God, my grandfather and the Angels were with her. Ma- There will forever be an emptiness in our home without you here. I will miss our phone conversations, your voicemails, your wisdom, your stories, running into your bedroom on good days to smile with you and bad ones to cry with you. I will miss your smile and how your face would light up whenever you would see your grandchildren and great grandchildren. I will miss the taste of your food especially your struffoli, zeppoles and pastina. I will miss our Atlantic City trips and playing the slot machines with you. But most of all I will miss the gift of your presence. Thank you for always worrying about us, for always being the voice of reason in our home. You always reminded us of what was important in life. I’ll always admire your strength and how hard you fought this losing battle. My life will forever be better for having you in it. No amount of time with you could have been enough for me. I will miss fighting with you about who loved each other more. Our last words to each other were “I love you more.” I will miss hearing you say those words to me every time I leave the house. In my last conversation with my grandma she said to me, I’m waiting for your grandfather to come get me & that’s exactly what God had planned. My grandma passed on 10/2. My grandfathers birthday is today 10/3. God took her from us, in just enough time for her to celebrate with him. I know she waited the last forty three years for this moment. I pray you’ll visit me in my dreams and always be the angel on my shoulder. Until we meet again, I will love you forever. ? I love you more.
