Elizabeth, aka Betty, Valenze passed peacefully in her sleep on the morning of May 1, 2023.
Betty was born on March 11, 1930 in Newburgh, NY to Ray and Millie Hutton. She married Ernest Valenze in 1951 and together they raised a family of 7 children: Claude (Sheryl), Bill (Diane), Dianne (Jim), Michael (Ann), Gina (the late Danil), John (Tammy) and Peter (Marlo). They had 12 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Betty graduated from SUNY Albany and became a schoolteacher in South Bethlehem, NY where she met her future husband. In 1956, they moved to Long Island and raised their family at 1 Oak Place in Massapequa.
Betty was a very active member of the Community United Methodist Church in Massapequa. She was a nursery school teacher, helped run the thrift shop, participated in prayer groups, helped organize special events and prepared refreshments after Sunday services. The church was her second family.
Betty loved her life at Oak Place and raised her children in a neighborhood where everyone watched over each other. Summer block parties were a tradition and cocktail parties occurred often. She enjoyed playing bridge and traveling throughout the US and Europe with her friends.
Betty and Ernie enjoyed their retirement years spending time with their grandchildren and visiting family on both coasts. They hosted Saturday night dinners at 1 Oak for over 40 years.
Betty will always be remembered for having a smile on her face and seeing the positive in everybody and everything. Despite her large family she always had time for anyone who needed it. She was truly the sweetest lady you could ever know.
