To a friend I use to know, way back in high school. It's funny how life is. You reach out for someone, don't know why there was no response, and to hear this news was devastating. I, along with many others who knew Harlan, remember playing football on the Jericho High School field, and then going back to Harlan's house, and his mom would fix us some cold drinks. It is hard to believe, but I say, Harlan, rest in peace and may God restore your life in heaven. All my love, John

Dear Sylvan family,Our thoughts and prayers go out to each of you during this difficult time. Growing up and spending time at the beach or at your home was a very memorable part of my childhood. You are all like siblings to us and Harlan was the 'big brother' and "leader of the pack". He was so athletic and always ready to organize any activity - be it touch football, soccer, swim meet in the pool, etc. as we divided our family into teams - a great time always had by all. Luckily over the years we had been kept informed by your "Command Center" (Aunt Lee and Uncle Elliott!) of how everyone's families had grown and what everyone was doing. It is with great sadness that we heard of Harlan's passing and we will miss him dearly and keep him in our hearts always. He was a part of our family too and we share in your loss.Much love, Pam, Rob, Margo and Andrew Randelman

Dear Sylvan Family, so sad to hear of Harlan's passing. Our deepest sympathies are extended to each and every one of you. Harlan has been a special part of our lives. We have wonderful memories of Haffner - Sylvan get togethers. We always looked up to Harlan and considered him a kind, generous person and terrific role model. We sincerely hope that our thoughts and prayers for Ann and the boys, and the entire Sylvan family, provide some comfort at this time. - Tom & Bob Haffner
