It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Ismael Antonio Escamilla, devoted husband for 58 years to Nubia Escamilla, loving father to Guillermo, Gloria, Monica and Sandra, proud grandfather and beloved brother, uncle and friend. His death on October 2, 2020, like his life was beautiful, graceful, and filled with so much love and peace. He transitioned to meet the Lord with his wife, children, and grandson right by his side.
Ismael was born on April 4, 1938 in Barranquilla, Colombia. He will be remembered for being a kind, courageous, generous and wise man who spent his entire life nurturing and protecting the minds and spirits of his family and friends. He paved the way for so many people when he dared to take a journey to the United States in 1964. He had 27 dollars in his pocket, a plan to make a better life for his family and the skills, grit and determination to manifest his dreams. Because of him, generations of families have had access to the education and resources they deserve.
Ismael’s teachings are enduring. He was a hardworking machinist and draftsman who taught his children and grandchildren to do what they love and to take pride in what they do. He taught them the importance of humility and respect each time they visited the ocean together; and to be grateful during their highest and lowest points in life. He always encouraged them to do things that brought them joy. For him it was bowling, cycling, traveling, and playing soccer. He also loved to dance and he did so with the rhythm and passion that seemed to awaken and please his ancestors.
He was a warrior, whose feisty and adventurous spirit will live on in his grandchildren, Giovanni, Anthony, Gabriella, Joseph, Giuseppe, Gabriel, David, William, Isabella, Carolina and Veronica. They along with his wife, children and their spouses, Sarita, Joseph, Mario and Chris are grieving the loss of an incredible man; and they are committed to honoring and sustaining the legacy of such a faithful servant.
