John Joseph Budnick
November 4,1949 – March 18, 2021
John Joseph Budnick of Massapequa Park, N.Y. died suddenly on March 18, 2021. John was born in 1949 at the Mitchel Field Air Force Base in Garden City. He was the beloved son of Air Force Technical Sgt. Harry J. Budnick and Marie L. Budnick. (both deceased), loving brother of Carol L. Jenkins, dear brother in law of Gordon Jenkins, cherished uncle of Brian Jenkins and adored great uncle of little 6-month-old Colton Jenkins.
John was the 1967 Salutatorian of his graduating class at Hicksville High School who went on to Hofstra University with several scholarships to graduate with a degree in Law. Following his graduation, John became a continually active member of the Hofstra George M. Estabrook Alumni Association, Inc. where he went on to win the very prestigious George M. Estabrook award. In fact, John was currently serving as Executive Vice-President of that very same prestigious Hofstra George M. Estabrook Alumni Association, Inc.
As a lawyer, he worked as an Assistant District Attorney for the County of Nassau, an advisor to the Nassau County Board of Supervisors, as an Assistant Town Attorney for the Town of Oyster Bay and he also opened and ran a private practice law firm for several years. In addition, John served as an advisor to many members of the Town Board, the Village Board and to the offices of two local congressmen.
Throughout his entire life, John was extremely active in civic and community affairs starting with his early years as a member of the Teenage Republican Club of Hicksville. In later years, he went on to become active with the Hicksville Kiwanis Club, the Massapequa Lions Club, the Knights of Columbus Delaney Council #5983, the Hicksville Community Council, Hicksville Against Drugs, Drug Free Long Island, the Massapequa Park Republican Club, YES Community Counseling and Friends of the Massapequa Preserve to name a few.
In his limited spare time, John became an extremely avid reader wherein he applied his photographic memory to become a self-developed expert in American history and an avid follower of winged air flight and the U.S. Spaceflight program. In addition, John loved to delve into science fiction books and movies. There was not much in these categories that John did not know.
Finally, John was a very kindhearted, gentle soul who was often referred to as the “Energizer Bunny” by his sister who only got to visit with him for short periods between his many and varied activities and commitments. He was the epitome of what it meant to be a sincere, thoughtful, and engaged citizen / community servant. John will forever be remembered as a most generous person who would do anything for anyone at any time – no matter the cost.
