John Heilman passed peacefully on May 15, 2023. He is survived by his loving wife, Lynann, and his children, James, Kerri, Brenda, and Andrew. He was a loving grandfather and uncle who gave his biggest smiles to his grandchildren and always had fun playing with his nephews and niece. John was an Army veteran. He had a long and proud career with the Long Island Railroad. Throughout his life, he cultivated a love of learning about science, math, history, and the arts. He also had a lifelong love for the ocean. He grew up swimming in the East River and after retirement he enjoyed going out on his boat in the Great South Bay to fish for fluke. He and Lynann were traveling companions who shared in expeditions all over the world where they saw amazing wildlife events. Visitation Friday, May 19, from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the Massapequa Funeral Home North Chapel. Internment at Old Grace Church Cemetery in Massapequa.
