I just learned of Joey's passing this morning. And I am struck about how sad it is in life that in our pursuit of a comfortable life, we often lose contact with people, who during the course of life, give us comfort!I'm one of those who grew up on 191st Street and have been living in California for 39 years. But I remember so well those fun touch football games on Wadsworth Ave. and the often hysterical car rides to and from the hockey rinks in Long Island. It is so difficult to fathom Joey is gone. I picture him with my recently departed brother reminiscing and sharing a few good laughs. In fact, it is with that sentiment that the lyrics of a blues song by the young guitarist and singer Joey Bonomassa haunt me since I got the news..."If I get to heaven and I pray that I do......I'll tap an angel on his shoulder. And I'll be asking around for you".. Song Title "Asking Around for You", studio version about 4 minutes on YouTube. This expresses how I feel Joey. I haven't seen you n so many years but your loss is profound. This song says it better than I am able to express. Thanks for being my friend in my early years. I only wish we could have still been good friends in the later ones. And that there didn't have to be a whole continent between us.

The cousins and family here, in Florida, and around Cabo Rojo; Arlene,Amarilyis,Frances,Hiram,Michael,Nildita, and more; Uncle's Hiram Sr.and Pito; Aunt Mimi and my mom Chickie are deeply sadden to the loss of Joey,a remarkable man. Everyone expresses there sincerest heartfelt condolence to Pattie, and the children, Marissa and Michael on the loss of a beloved husband, father, cousin, and nephew. My thoughts go to the battles we had growing up on 191st and in P.R. against Hiram and Michael. We always won through his toughness, competitiveness, being fealess but wise. He loved his sports and lifting weights,a humble Jack Lalanne. He was named Targerts Driving School teacher of the year and help me and Arlene and others pass the road test. He always look out and protected our best interest. Joey was the Best, a brother to many, strong but gentle and soft spoken,he will always be in our Hearts!!! RIP Joey, your now in peace, with our Titi Ilvia...

My sincerest heartfelt condolences to Patti, Marissa and Michael on the loss of such a precious human being as Joey. Joe and I grew up in Washington Heights. I lived at 609 West 191st Street and Joey lived across the street at 606 West 191st Street. We spent so many occasions regularly jogging/running, playing paddleball, working out, playing tennis, and, of course, playing (almost every day of the year, come rain or shine!) our beloved touch football on Wadsworth Avenue down the street. We shared our activities with so many good friends like Cliff Odea, John Kelly, Tommy and Billy Malderelli, Eddie Meyer, and a few others. We all felt a strong bond with each other and we all remember how good a person and how kind, thoughtful, sensitive and caring Joe was. My thoughts always return to the marvelous times we had together, times we shall never forget. Joey was not just a friend. He was a brother and part of my special family. And strongly remember, Patti, Marissa and Michael, that while we have memories, that special person, husband, father and friend, he shall always be in our hearts and shall never leave us.
