Joseph DeLuca Sr., 92, of Massapequa, New York, passed away peacefully at home on March 11, 2025. Born in 1932, Joseph lived a life of love and dedication to his family and his faith.
Joe was born and raised in Brooklyn NY with his sister Lee and his brothers Tony and Sal. He served his country honorably as a corporal in the U.S. Army. After his military service, Joe returned to Brooklyn and married the love of his life, Louise Piccarreto, with whom he shared nearly seven decades of marriage. Together, they raised three sons: Joseph Jr. (Lois), Mark (Lisa), and Michael (Liz). Joe cherished his role as a grandfather to five grandchildren: Alexis, Joseph, Christina, Daniel, and Katerina, who were the pride and joy of his life.
He was a great father who exemplified love and taught his boys the value of hard work, kindness and respect for others. In his children’s eyes, he had a superpower that allowed him fix all manner of things other people paid repairmen to fix. He created many memories with his children who helped him fix cars, TVs and home appliances.
Until his retirement in 1995, he worked in the Exercise Physiology Lab at CUNY – Queens College, a job he truly loved. He remained close with his work colleagues after retirement, attending regular reunions in which eating large quantities of garlic was required.
Joe loved and was loved by a large extended family. Large family gatherings were important to him and gave him great joy.
Additionally, he had a wide circle of friends including many lifelong friends. After retirement, he and Louise spent winters in Tarpon Springs FL where they enjoyed an active social life.
Joe will be remembered for his kindness and his devotion to his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
