My deepest sympathies to the beautiful family of Dr. Joe. I had the honor of working with this dedicated and gifted man for nearly sixteen years. He was a gentleman and a gentle soul. He was truly dedicated to his patients and his family. He lived his Christian faith in every aspect of his life. I will truly treasure the days spent with he and Dr. Rose. Days filled with a feeling of family, unity, dedication and admiration for each other. I reflect back to Dr . Joe’s infectious giggle and love for all reasons to have a celebration. He would often tease me to continue to practice my baking skills. He would eagerly volunteer to be the taster of all baked goods to see my progress. This was his very sweet way of saying …he enjoyed the home made treats! He and Dr. Rose were a love story to watch through the years. The mutual respect and affection they had together was heart warming. Their love of their children, grandchildren and extended family and friends was immeasurable. Their respect, kindness and compassion to their patients made them stand alone from other medical professionals. God rest the souls of Joseph and Rose.
Dr. Annie Koshi left a message on August 4, 2021:
Dr. Pottanat (Appachan) had been more than a brother to me. When I had my open-heart surgery in 1996, I was living on Columbia University campus all by myself. I had known Appachan through Thampichayan, Appachan’s oldest brother-in-law, a relative of mine. I called Appachan when my doctor recommended surgery for me. At that time he was getting his training in Cardiology at Gouverneur hospital, NYC. He referred me to his supervisor and had him help me all the way through. Appachan and Rosey took me to the hospital l (NYU Medical Center) and had me admitted. Appachan took the responsibly in his hands and visited me in the hospital most every day until I got discharged. He instructed all the staff who attended me at the hospital to give me special attention. When I got back on campus, the heating system in my Residence Hall went off one day. Appachan and Rosey took me to their apartment in Stuyvesant town and brought me back only after making sure that the heating system was back on. After I got married, my husband and I used to be part of most of the Pottanatt family get-togethers. We used to enjoy him cracking jokes and telling stories. He became my cardiologist and I had regular check-ups with him at his Amityville clinic. After I moved to Riverdale, he was concerned about my long driving and suggested that it would be better for me to find a cardiologist nearby. However, until he was bed-ridden he would explain to me the test reports from other cardiologists. I would miss him a lot. I grieve for him as a great, irreplaceable doctor-friend who paid special attention to my medical needs with brotherly love. He would be always in my memory and prayers as my best friend-benefactor who helped me with brotherly love. I send my heartfelt condolences to Pamy, Jerry, Jay, Appachan’s. brothers, sisters, and their families.
Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.

On behalf of AKMG Greater New York, please accept our heartfelt ♥ condolences and prayers. Your parents were gems and dear to many of my friends in AKMG. I did not have the pleasure of getting to know them given my younger age, but have heard about them from various members who were saddened to hear the passing of your father so soon after your mother. I am sure they are together once again in heaven. Sincerely, Binu Chacko,MD.
