Lawrence E. Cooper of Massapequa, NY passed away on Wednesday, November 25th, 2020 at the age of 77. Lawrence was born in Islip, NY on October 21, 1943 to Bridget Long. As a son of an Irish immigrant, Larry lived his childhood in Kings Park, NY where he was the youngest brother to Frederick and John (both predeceased). Lawrence was drafted into the Vietnam War to serve in the Army Corp of Engineers. Upon his return, he pursued a Bachelor’s Degree of Arts from Queens College. After getting his CPA, he became a senior partner at Chassin Levine Rosen and Company. Around that time he also met and married the love of his life, Mary Ann Mele; they were married for 27 years until her death in 1996.
Lawrence was a dedicated and loving father to his children, Lisa Fahey, Jennifer Pace, and Brian Cooper; as well as to his sons-in-law Dayve Pace and Pat Fahey and daughter-in-law, Zena Cooper. Due to his wife’s Mary Ann’s untimely death, he had to take on the role of both mom and dad. He took his role seriously and supported them through their lives’ milestones. Lawrence’s grandchildren, Delaney, Cooper, Aidan, and Arden were the light of his life. He looked forward to spending time with them, particularly at Christmas Eve, which he proudly hosted for over 20 years.
Lawrence was known for his dry and witty sense of humor as well as his love of a good political debate on social media. In his spare time, he was an avid golfer and history buff of the Civil War. Lawrence also enjoyed traveling to his favorite destinations of Ireland, Spain, and Italy.
Lawrence Cooper was an exemplary man and touched many people’s lives. He will be sorely missed by his friends and family.
