Mary Spinosa, 89, Co-Founder of East/West Industries, passed away while surrounded by her children, and grandchildren on April 20, 2021. Mary had survived three past battles with cancer over the years, but not this fourth battle.
Mary grew up in Brooklyn, New York and was a woman dedicated to her family. She grew up with her parents Antonio & Maria Fiorentino, along with her brothers, Mimi & Matty. She attended Girls Commercial High School in Brooklyn and continued a career as a bank teller at Manufacturers Hanover on Wall Street in New York City.
Soon after graduation, Mary married her husband Dominic and moved to Wantagh, Long Island, New York where she raised their three children, Joseph, Tony & Teresa.
In 1968, Dom and Mary established their own company, East/West Industries, Inc. of Long Island, New York. They set East/West’s guiding tenet as “Saving aircrew lives is our first concern”. With a few engineers and family members, they started submitting proposals for simpler more reliable designs for ejection seat and life support components to ejection seat and aircraft OEMs. With this, East/West began manufacturing life support products and ejection seat parts.
Mary devoted her life to her family. She was dedicated to supporting and loving her three children as they found their place in the world. She traveled extensively with Dom, and then later in life with her three children. She especially loved to see her extended family and relatives in Sorrento, Italy and Toronto, Canada which she treated like family. Mary was also a volunteer at St. Francis Hospital in Roslyn, New York for eight years in honor of Dom’s health care.
Mary’s children, Joseph, Tony and Teresa, their spouses Teresa, Dex and Salvatore, her five grandchildren, and her three great grandchildren wish to convey their sincere appreciation for the outpouring of condolences and expressions of sympathy for our loss.
Mary has been a role model for so many people. A woman of grace, style, elegance, and dignity. We will forever have her in our hearts and cherish her memories.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made, in memory of Mary, to the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure of Greater NY.
