So sorry to hear about Mary. She was one of the sweetest, gentlest women I ever knew. Never had a bad word to say about anyone. We had some good times in Rosedale. Surely she is looking down on everyone from beside Jesus. Sandy & Richie McKenna

Maureen and Mike, we are so sorry to hear of your mom's passing - from the nice words being written about Mary... she sounds like a wonderful lady and mom. She will certainly be missed by the many people whose lives she was fortunate to have touched - there is absolutely nothing like a mother's love.In time I can honestly say you will think of her and smile! Our sincere consoldences,

Dearest Auntie Mary. Feeling so sad that I will not meet you again in this lifetime, and wishing Emily had the opportunity to meet you again. I'm always telling her how much I love my 'Auntie Mary & Uncle Billy' and all the wonderful times I had staying with ye in Rosedale. Thank you for always showing me nothing but love and kindness whenever we met and for giving me so many happy memories, I will cherish them always. You truly were an incredible woman, so selflessly, always putting others first. I have no doubt you will be there looking out for us all on the other side. Until we meet again, all my love, Sharon. xxx

Mary Flaherty was a woman who besides being one of my mom's dearest friends was another part of our family as well.We lived around the corner from the Flaherty's growing up.Over the years whenever I would speak to Mary on the phone she'd bring up this story to me.When I was a teenager I had a nuns outfit that I would break out for no occasion..just to go to a dance, visit a friend in the hospital etc...So I put it on one day and walked around the corner to the Flaherty's. Billy answered the door(he did not recognize me at first)Yelled Mary there's a sister here to see you.So I came into the house and sitting at the kitchen table was Mary and Father Rafftery from St Clares.I immediately had a meltdown but stayed in character for a few minutes until Mary realized who I was.Poor Fr Rafftery had no idea what was happenening.Everyone was laughing and then he finally realized who I was.So I said Father you cannot tell my mother(who was very involved in the Church) and he was saying he cant lie and there I was trying to be funny but now having a holy meltdown that I was impersonating a nun to the dear priest and my mother would reign holy gounded down on me.I was begging him and he was firm saying an omission of the truth is still a lie so Im sorry I cant. Finally Mary is in tears laughing,Im in tears because I knew I was in big trouble and Billy finally pounded on the table in his powerful voice and said Father you will not speak of this again you are in MY house and you haven't seen anything here today understand??Well the nice afternoon tea took a turn and Father finally agreed to Billy's command.I will have to tell you that in the next few weeks to come Mary & myself conspired to keep my mother away from Fr Rafftery or if they were in conversation after church we'd interrupt them change the subject and get my mom out of there.I think Fr.was convinced we were all nuts and my mother never had a clue till we told her many years later. That was Mary.Always a champion of any of her Rosedale kids...and a fun co conspirator.Blessings to all of you Flaherty's for a lifetime of wonderful memories

Mom, you were an angel here on earth I learned so very much from you. You were so gentle and so kind; your Smile would always see me through. You taught me how to love unconditionally And how to be my very best in all I do. You gave your all to God and your family, Never once stopping to think about you. You were more than a mother, you were my Best friend and a great listener too. Oh, how I will miss our special talks and All the fun things we used to do. Your visits. Mom, I can never say goodbye to you, Because I could never bear the pain. Instead, I say I love you, Mom Until we meet again Maureen xoxo

Dearest Mary. Words can't describe how much I will miss you. Not only were you my sister, you were like a mom and a best friend. Family was and continued throughout your life to be the most important thing to you. You brought a young innocent girl to America and had your work cut out for you teaching me a bit of street sense. Remembering how much you laughed when you found out that I thought a 'grasshopper cocktail' was a real grasshopper in a glass. From there we raised our children together and our relationship continued to grow from either side of the Atlantic. I know I will miss you and think of you every day but I'm happy to know you went peacefully and are in heaven with baby John and mommy and daddy looking down on us all. Love you always from your sister Eileen.
