Mattie Connolly was born in New York, on January 5, 1940, to his parents Lena & Peter Connolly (RIP). When Mattie was 6 years old, his family moved to Scotstown, Co. Monaghan, Ireland, where he remained until returning to NY in 1960. He then enlisted in the United States Army, where he served his country proudly. In 1963, Mattie formed the Majestic Showband with his sister Mary, Peter, Martin Mulhaire, Arthur Sherry and Johnny Hanley. They were the resident band at the Red Mill in the Bronx, playing three nights a week for ten consecutive years. Mattie was a carpenter who worked in the NYC tunnels and heavy construction projects for years before joining the NYC Parks Department, where he retired in 2012. Mattie lived and raised his family in Richmond Hill, Queens and then Norwalk, CT until 6/2023. Mattie then moved to Massapequa, Long Island. Mattie is survived by his loving wife Bridget, sons Brian (Eileen), Matthew (Daria), Patrick (Kristen) and daughter Deirdre. He is survived by 9 grandchildren (Aidan, Kate, Danny, Matthew Jr., Savana, Lauren, Kieran, Liam & Gabby) and 6 granddogs (Ollie, Bozley, Bradley, Lola, Finley and Tucker). Mattie is also survived by his sister Mary Connolly Sherry, many nieces, nephews and extended family.
