In loving memory of Matthew O’Brien, of Massapequa, born on May 1, 1979. I am heartbroken to announce his passing on Thursday, February 9, 2023, at the age of 43. He is survived by his wife and soulmate, Susan, and two loving children, daughter, Avery (12) and son, Dylan (9).
He is the cherished son of Janet and Tommy O’Brien, and son-in-law of Bob and the late Jane Zutty. Beloved brother to Tatum (Vic), Kristin (Steve), Ryan (Whitney) and brother-in-law to Michael (Chrissy). He will be greatly missed as “Funny Uncle Matt” to Payton, Kiera, Connor, Brody, Brynn, Brielle, Corinne, Zack and Zoey.
Matthew loved spending time with his family, whether it was traveling to Hawaii, skiing, or boating on the Great South Bay. Matt was always the “Life of the Party”. He loved to do the Irish Jig, dress up in costumes for the holidays, and organize the family “Turkey Bowl”, the annual Thanksgiving football game. He was always a kid at heart and went down every water slide he could find. His favorite teams were the Mets, Islanders, and Giants, and he always enjoyed going to the games.
After a brave battle with Pancreatic Cancer for 23 months, the family asks in lieu of flowers that a donation be made in honor of Matthew. Donations can be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (see link on main obituary page)
