Michael Castellano passed away at the age of 31 after a long struggle with alcoholism. He had a big heart and always had a head full of dreams. His battle tested him and those around him but could never exhaust the love they had for him.
Michael was an Eagle Scout. He spent his childhood on the water fishing and boating with his family. At an early age he fell in love with cooking and attended the BOCES Culinary Program in high school, and then later dreamed of being a police officer. While he never reached that dream, he never lost his passion for these and many other things.
His final act was a heroic one. Moments after he passed, his big heart was delivered to a recipient badly in need of one. We ask that in addition to praying for Michael and his return home to God, please pray for the recipient of his heart so that they can have a new life.
Michael is survived by his loving parents, Michael Castellano and Sharon Coughlin Castellano; his brother, Ryan Castellano; his grandparents, Jean Pike, Michael Castellano, and Theresa Castellano; his aunts and uncles, Stephen Castellano, Lauren and Alan Dale, Janet and Raymond Rose, Cindy and George Hanna, and Monica Coughlin; his Godparents Christian Liguori and Stephanie Pedone Smith; eight first cousins; along with countless other close family members and friends whom he loved deeply. He was predeceased by his grandfather, John J. Coughlin, MD and his uncle, Detective John J. Coughlin Jr.
He will be laid to rest in Newport, RI where he will join his beloved Uncle Johnny.
In Lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Michael’s name to either Tunnel to Towers, a foundation that helps Gold Star families with their mortgages, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
